Position Summary The Senior Aquatics Director provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for all aquatics programs and operations at the YMCA at Norton Commons. This position manages a team of 40–50 lifeguards and oversees pool operations, staff recruitment, training, and performance management, ensuring safe, high-quality, mission‑driven aquatics experiences for members and participants. The role collaborates with YMCA leadership to develop innovative programming, manage budgets, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
Uphold the YMCA mission and demonstrate a nurturing, hopeful, and welcoming attitude.
Develop positive community relationships.
Ensure excellent member service and meet Association standards.
Actively participate as part of the YMCA at Norton Commons leadership team.
Recruit, hire, and retain lifeguards year‑round.
Train, lead, and supervise part‑time instructor staff of approximately 40 lifeguards.
Perform risk‑management tasks: safety audits, drills, in‑services, staff observations, chemical and pump‑room operations and general pool maintenance.
Manage and monitor the department budget, focusing on lifeguard salaries and pool maintenance.
Maintain lifeguard certification records and prepare compliance reports.
Continue to grow aquatics programs to serve the community.
Provide leadership and support for the annual fundraising campaign, including volunteer recruitment and development.
Participate in the Association Aquatics cabinet to ensure consistency and quality in the department.
Effect on End Result Successful performance creates vibrant, safe services that deliver the YMCA mission and member service. Staff and volunteers demonstrate welcoming, nurturing, and determined behaviors, fostering personal development, health, and confidence.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience in aquatics and/or recreation (preferred).
Current lifeguard certification, including First Aid, CPR professional level, and Emergency Oxygen Administration (provided by YMCA).
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification (provided by YMCA).
YMCA Lifeguard Training certification (provided by YMCA).
Strong organizational skills and ability to navigate multiple technology platforms.
Strong communication skills across multiple generations.
