Job Description The Residential Community Director oversees the day-to-day operations of a residential area, supervises staff, offers support and outreach to residents, and provides co‑curricular opportunities. The director ensures a safe, healthy living and learning environment by enforcing institutional policies and supports the broader goals of Housing & Residential Education and the Division of Student Affairs.
This is a full‑time 12‑month live‑in position. Staff receive a furnished apartment and a partner and pet policy applies.
Responsibilities
Manage the operation of a residential community ranging between 280 and 475 students.
Supervise student leaders within the residential area, managing a team of 7–16.
Provide individualized support to residential students.
Participate in collateral assignments that support department initiatives (e.g., Housing Operations, Student Conduct & Restorative Practices, CA Selection & Training, Community Development).
Support the Division of Student Affairs in implementing campus policies and coordinating related procedures.
Contribute to Housing and Residential Education through projects and committees.
Participate in 24‑hour on‑call duty rotations as assigned.
Essential Functions Community Development – 20%
Support residential students through outreach, intentional programs, and events with a strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusive communities.
Collaborate with campus partners to foster belonging within Living Learning Communities and other residential initiatives.
Operational Management – 20%
Manage operations and building maintenance of the residential community.
Oversee opening/closing of buildings, key management, safety inspections, damage billing, and supervision of common areas each trimester.
Student Conduct Administration and Student Support – 15%
Collaborate with partners to recognize student rights and responsibilities and promote compliance with the student code of conduct.
Facilitate student conduct meetings and coordinate conduct‑related sanctions.
Provide academic and personal support through student meetings.
Participate in 24‑hour on‑call duty rotations as assigned.
Supervision of Residential Community Staff – 15%
Mentor staff on resident interaction, roommate mediation, programming, and related responsibilities.
Collateral Assignment – 20% Assigned annually or biennially. Examples include:
Housing Operations: Assist with housing selection, roommate matching, building tours, marketing, and transitional projects.
Student Conduct & Restorative Practices: Assist with the University Probation Review Committee, recruitment, selection, training, and case coordination.
Community Advisor Selection & Training: Lead CA selection, training, and development initiatives focused on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Community Development: Guide planning and implementation of Thematic Communities (LEAPs) and Residential Curriculum.
Summer: Oversee orientation housing, support summer conferences/groups, and manage on‑campus residency for summer students.
Committees and Special Initiatives – 10%
Participate on committees and in special initiatives to support the Division of Student Affairs.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Strong time‑management and/or project‑management skills.
Experience supervising student paraprofessionals or student leaders.
Familiarity with Student Development Theories in an educational setting.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required.
Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field preferred.
Experience Required Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in residential education. A master’s degree may substitute for professional experience.

Job grade: Grade 3.
Salary range: $50,000 – $58,000.
