Underwriting Manager – Miscellaneous Medical & Life Sciences Beazley is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager for its Miscellaneous Medical portfolio within the Healthcare team.

Job Summary Underwrite a Miscellaneous Medical account, provide counsel on underwriting issues, manage a team of underwriters, maintain market reputation and deliver profitable results.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and oversee the underwriting of a profitable Miscellaneous Medical portfolio with a focus on the West Coast.

Structure tailor‑made solutions, win new business and retain existing business, and assist direct reports to do the same.

Monitor premiums, costs and claims ratios, and take corrective measures to ensure long‑term profitability.

Monitor underwriters in their daily work to ensure profitability and efficient, cost‑effective administration of the account.

Work closely with claims managers to keep the team aware of profitability and claims trends.

Underwriting

Develop and underwrite a profitable portfolio of Miscellaneous Medical business as part of the Healthcare team.

Evaluate appropriate risk premium considering risk costs, reinsurance cessions, capital exposure and underwriting and general administration costs to ensure profitability using rating models as applicable.

Monitor and supervise assistants in their daily work to ensure compliance with underwriting philosophy and policy and consistency within the Miscellaneous Medical team, Healthcare and Specialty Risks.

Comply with Beazley’s underwriting control standards for business written through Lloyd’s, Beazley Insurance Company Inc or Beazley’s internal MGAs.

Client Management

Advise, assist and service clients on insurance and risk matters to ensure client satisfaction.

Foster positive relationships with clients to gain a mutual understanding of both parties’ needs.

Maintain good business relationships with brokers.

Maintain awareness of Beazley product range and seize opportunities to introduce other products.

Team Leadership

Provide leadership, direction and support to the team.

Foster a spirit of inclusion, teamwork and unity reflecting Beazley’s culture and values.

Act as a mentor and coach to enable direct reports to achieve their potential.

Ensure direct reports contribute to overall team and business objectives.

Provide timely performance feedback and address poor performance appropriatelyli>

Collaborate with other managers to optimise resource utilisation.

Leverage networking to develop standardised underwriting policy and best practice.

Develop best practice and disseminate knowledge within the Healthcare and Specialty Risks team.

Collaborate with peers to maximise opportunities and profitability.

Share and gather knowledge across the Beazley Group.

Produce presentations and marketing literature as required.

Prepare business plans and research documents for the Miscellaneous Medical account.
