About the Opportunity We are seeking a high-impact Tax Director to lead and build the tax function for a growing, family-owned agribusiness with a complex multi-entity structure. This company operates across fresh produce, value-add products, land development, farming, and specialty crops. With a culture rooted in tradition and long-tenured employees, this organization is modernizing operations and exploring expansion opportunities, including potential international growth.
This is a unique chance to be the go-to tax authority, advising leadership on strategic initiatives while shaping the foundation for a future Tax Department. You will have direct access to executive leadership and ownership, making an immediate and visible impact.
What You’ll Do
Develop and implement a comprehensive tax strategy across all divisions.
Advise leadership on entity structuring, land developments, capital investments, and growth initiatives.
Identify opportunities for tax optimization, credits, incentives, and long-term planning.
Tax Compliance
Oversee federal, state, and local tax filings for the company and subsidiaries.
Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and legal partners.
Ensure compliance with evolving tax regulations affecting agribusiness and multi-state operations.
Cross-Functional Business Advisory
Serve as a strategic partner to operations, finance, real estate, and executive leadership.
Participate in planning for acquisitions, new ventures, and potential international expansion.
Provide insights on the tax implications of business decisions, contracts, and transactions.
Leadership & Department Building
Lead as a one-person function initially with the opportunity to build a team.
Establish tax infrastructure, best practices, and internal processes for long-term success.
Build trust with a long-tenured, family-oriented team while bringing fresh perspective and modernization.
Ad Hoc & Ownership Support
Respond quickly to requests from ownership during peak seasons.
Support operational walkthroughs and maintain strong relationships across all levels of the business.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced tax degree preferred.
7+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally with exposure to multi-entity holding companies, agribusiness, manufacturing, distribution, or complex private company environments.
Strong knowledge of federal and state tax compliance and planning.
Proven ability to operate autonomously with full ownership of a tax function.
