Position Overview Attorney needed! In this role, you will provide legal support as Staff Attorney for the State of Illinois Business and Therapy Prosecutions Program. You will perform highly specialized technical assistance and participate directly as an expert whose advice key decision makers rely on in formulating administrative policies for interpreting assigned acts, rules, regulations, and judicial decisions of assigned acts.

You will travel to conduct formal and informal hearings on complaints alleging violations under assigned acts. You will institute licensure disciplinary proceedings in the Department against a licensee accused of irregular practice under assigned acts. You will conduct research and provide expert legal advice to professional licensing and disciplinary boards.

Essential Functions

Perform highly specialized technical assistance and participate directly as an expert whose advice key decision makers rely on in formulating administrative policies for interpreting assigned acts, rules, regulations, and judicial decisions, including but not limited to the Public Accounting Act; all Athletic Acts; the Private Detective, Private Alarm, Private Security, Fingerprint Vendor, and Locksmith Act; all Design and Engineering Acts; all Therapy Acts; and all Cannabis Acts.

Travel to conduct formal and informal hearings on complaints alleging violations under assigned acts.

Institute licensure disciplinary proceedings in the Department against a licensee accused of irregular practice under assigned acts.

Conduct research and provide expert legal advice to professional licensing and disciplinary boards in the interpretation of applicable statutes, proposed rules, regulations, and changes in applicable legislation.

Enter data on personal computer and/or laptop computer concerning prosecution activities.

Consult with and cooperate with other State and Federal agencies, State Attorney's Office and U.S. Attorneys regarding cases of a sensitive and confidential nature involving criminal and/or administrative prosecution, transfer and use of evidence and court appearance scheduling.

Perform other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires graduation from a recognized law school.

Requires possession of a valid license to practice law in Illinois.

Requires three years professional experience in the practice of law in the area of administrative and regulatory law.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefers at least seven years of experience with judicial and quasi-judicial procedure, the rules of evidence, administrative hearings, and trial procedure, specifically relating to professional licensing, cannabis regulations, or regulatory laws.

Prefers at least seven years of litigation experience conducting trials or evidentiary hearings in state court, federal court, or administrative hearings.

Prefers at least seven years of experience acquiring extensive knowledge of state and federal laws, specifically relating to administrative and regulatory functions.

Prefers at least five years of experience managing and maintaining individual case load.
