Position Summary This role plays a key part in supporting accurate and informed product pricing by keeping Bills of Material and cost sheets current, and by delivering clear, insightful analysis and reporting of key financial cost data. The Product Accounting Specialist partners closely with Operations, Purchasing, and the broader Finance team to ensure our product information is reliable, up-to-date, and aligned with business needs. This position helps drive confident decision‑making, supports margin visibility, and contributes to the overall financial strength of Rocket Farms.
Key Responsibilities
Study and collect detailed data on the costs of business activities, including labor, materials, utilities, and overhead.
Analyze operational and product cost information to ensure accuracy and support decision‑making.
Partner with the Purchasing team to confirm accurate purchase prices and units of measure (UOM).
Prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs and analyze variances.
Prepare monthly WIP and Dump valuation reports.
Create and post monthly adjustments for hard goods and growing supplies.
Assist in building and managing budgets by forecasting expenses and promoting cost efficiency.
Inventory Management
Ensure accurate inventory accounting, reporting, and reconciliations.
Assist with quarterly physical inventories for plants and hard goods.
Process improvement: Identify inefficiencies and provide recommendations to management for cost savings and improved profitability.
Perform internal cost audits and help develop or maintain company accounting procedures.
Conduct quarterly audits of inventory counts.
Work closely with Operations, Purchasing, and the Accounting team to resolve cost variances and provide financial data that supports business decisions.
Partner with Sales and Accounting to support profitable pricing structures for existing and new products.
Provide gross margin analysis by item, crop, and customer.
Identify inefficiencies and provide recommendations for cost savings and improved profitability.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
BS degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Experience in agricultural production is preferred but not required.
Experience with report writing and financial data analysis.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Basic skills, including 10-key, alphanumeric data entry, contact management, and presentation preparation.
Experience with an ERP system is preferred.
Physical Requirements While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; frequently required to talk or hear; and occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities by this job include close distance and color vision.
