Financial Operations Controller
– Occasions Caterers (Washington DC / Baltimore area)
Salary range:
$130,000 - $150,000 per year
Additional compensation:
yearly bonus
Job Summary The Financial Operations Controller is responsible for overseeing cost control, month‑end close, accruals, and financial forecasting for Occasions Caterers. This role supports operations and finance teams to achieve financial targets and maintain accurate reporting.
Cost Control and Operational Finance
Monitor and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly operational costs (food, labor, and overhead) across all business units.
Issue operating cost spending targets to Operations Managers, track spend versus target, and report findings.
Partner with Operations Managers to ensure operating cost spending aligns with targets.
Prepare management reports for Vice President of Operations and Sr Finance Manager and present actionable recommendations.
Month‑End Close & Accruals
Prepare and record accruals for accounts receivable, accounts payable, sales, expenses, and inventory.
Ensure timely and accurate month‑end close processes and financial reporting.
Own accuracy of P&L and Balance Sheet for Occasions.
Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and ensure accurate revenue and expense recognition.
Oversee the end‑to‑end accounts payable function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of vendor invoices and payments.
Enter invoices into the Accounts Payable system and the Sales Order & Invoicing system (CxP) for accurate client billing.
Manage vendor and supplier relationships, address discrepancies, and ensure contractual alignment.
Resolve disputes with suppliers/vendors regarding payments.
Cost Forecasting and Financial Planning
Develop and maintain detailed cost/overhead forecasting models for catering operations.
Work with Operations Managers and Sr Finance Manager to flash anticipated operating expenses for the division monthly.
Update forecasts weekly and support the Senior Finance Manager in annual budgeting and forecasting.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Serve as financial point of contact between operations, procurement, senior leadership, and the Restaurant Associates Finance team.
Communicate and present financial results and guidance clearly to financial and non‑financial stakeholders.
Requirements
5‑7+ years progressive accounting and financial control experience, preferably in the foodservice, catering, hotel, or hospitality industry.
4‑year bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
Proven expertise in cost control, forecasting, accounts receivable, and accounts payable management.
Excellent time‑management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of inventory and supply chain management in a food‑service environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Proactive, self‑motivated, and continuous learner.
Ability to navigate ambiguity and change in a dynamic business environment.
Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
