Summer 2026 - Justice Scholar Program (High School Students - Rising Junior/Senior)

Brooklyn, NY The Justice Scholar Program

funds up to ten New York City high‑school students for a four‑week summer experience.

The program offers lectures, field trips, group projects, and guest speakers to examine the criminal justice system, the history of mass incarceration, and the intersection of race, education, and economics with justice.

Students will develop critical thinking, writing, and analytical skills while exploring how justice is practiced and reformed in America. Program Schedule The program runs from Monday, July 20th to Friday, August 14th, 2026.

Sessions are held Monday‑Friday, 9:30 am‑3:00 pm. Compensation Students receive $340 per week, taxable under federal and state payroll laws. Eligibility Students must be currently enrolled in a New York City high school, entering their junior or senior year in the fall of 2026, and have an interest in the criminal justice system. Application deadline: January 31, 2026. Writing Prompts (choose two, 300–350 words each): Why are you interested in criminal justice reform? Why would you like to be a Justice Scholar, and why at Vera? Describe yourself! What are your strengths, weaknesses, passions, etc.? What’s a school assignment you completed in the last year or two that you are particularly proud of? Why?
