Responsibilities: Key duties include surgical care for patients with benign and malignant diseases of the liver, pancreas and bile ducts, participating in related regional/ national/ international conferences, teaching integrated programs in the surgical sciences, and conducting clinical trials or other research. Assist in surgical procedures with precision and expertise, adhering to established protocols and aseptic techniques. Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, including reviewing patient medical histories and vital signs. Develop comprehensive discharge planning for patients to ensure smooth transitions from hospital to home or other care settings. Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care throughout the surgical process. Monitor patients during recovery, addressing any complications or concerns that may arise post-surgery. Engage in ongoing research to stay current with advancements in surgical techniques and technologies. Maintain accurate medical coding for procedures performed and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. Provide compassionate care in various settings including clinics, senior care facilities, or hospice care environments as needed.
Experience : Completion of a Physician Assistant program from an ACGME accredited program in surgery is required Minimum of 3-4 years of experience as a Surgical PA specializing within treating liver, bile duct and pancreatic cancer is highly preferred Must have or be eligible for California State Physician Assistant licensure Experience working in the Operating Room as a First Assist is required Well versed in the surgical and medical management of benign and malignant conditions in the liver, pancreas, bile duct and duodenum A passion for providing excellent clinical care and excellent communication skills and interest in working in a collaborative / team-oriented environment are a must. Ability to achieve full and unrestricted hospital privileges at Hoag Hospital
