Job Description
At NorthBay Health, the Certified Phlebotomy Tech /Medical Assistant I (CPT/MA) acts as both a CPT and a Medical Assistant, based on the needs in the department. The CPT/MAI collects and prepares lab samples for transport to reference laboratories, registers patients, and enters requisitions into the electronic medical record. They facilitate the flow of information into and out of the lab by interacting with the public, using computer systems, delivering reports, answering phones, and processing mail. They are responsible for providing direct patient care in support of a provider in an ambulatory care setting under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician. They may administer medications upon completion of a medication administration course and under specific physician supervision. Based on business need, they may be assigned to other areas.
Education
High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program with a certificate.
Program or additional classwork regarding medication administration required.
Licensure/Certification
A Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) certificate or higher Laboratory license (MLT/CLS) issued by the state of California.
Current AHA or equivalent certification in BLS.
Medical Assistant state or national certification required within 6 months of hire.
Program or additional classwork regarding medication administration required within 6 months of hire.
Medical Administration competency completion required within 6 months of hire.
Experience
One year of acute care hospital experience or ambulatory care setting preferred.
One year of phlebotomy experience highly preferred.
Skills
Phlebotomy, basic medical terminology, typing, math, and computer skills.
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups: Geriatric, Adult, Young Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal.
Demonstrated effective time‑management skills.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Bilingual preferred.

Compensation
Hourly Salary Range $27.27–$33.68 (Offered hourly rate based on years of experience).
