Job Description Description The Managing Principal plays a key leadership role in driving strategic vision, operational excellence, and cultural integrity within their studio while aligning with Pfluger Architects' broader objectives. Reporting to the CEO, the Managing Principal combines people leadership, architectural expertise, and business development skills to deliver impactful, client-focused solutions. As part of the Leadership Team, this role ensures high performance, champions the firm’s core values, cultivates a collaborative and innovative culture, and spearheads client and business development initiatives. Role & Responsibilities:

in all professional activities. Actively contribute to the Leadership Team by developing and executing firm-wide goals and addressing organizational challenges. Experienced and effective people leader with exceptional people leader addendum skills and competencies. Set and oversee people, product, process, and financial goals for the studio, ensuring alignment with firm-wide objectives. Serve as a brand ambassador, aligning decisions and communication with the firm’s purpose and core values. Recruit, develop, and retain top talent, fostering leadership growth and expertise within the firm. Identifies and cultivates talent for critical positions. Author and represent the firm thought leaders at conferences and encourage award submissions. Lead by example, cultivating a collaborative work environment that supports employees’ full potential. Collaborate with the Executive Team to address studio performance, challenges, and growth opportunities. Proactively identify and mitigate risks at both the firm-wide and studio levels. Partner with all other studios in the sharing of the firm’s resources and expertise as required to support the firm’s work and deliver solutions of the highest quality. Represent the studio as an investing shareholder.
Client Satisfaction through Exceptional Craft & Product Development & Delivery
Provide ultimate oversight of the studio’s craft and product, ensuring alignment with core values and the
Pfluger Proven Process . Uphold high-quality work standards through role modeling, clear expectations, and accountability. Serve as the Client Executive for studio clients and act as the project leader over all related pre-bond services. Cultivate the highest level of trusted advisor status with clients, ensuring exceptional client satisfaction. Frequently seek out client feedback, providing insight to project teams for how to level up craft, product, and service. Lead pre-design services and ensure resources and expertise are shared across studios to support firm-wide work. Partner with all other studios in the sharing of the firm’s resources and expertise as required to support the firm’s work and deliver solutions of the highest quality. Establish and manage monthly invoicing expectations. Foster a culture of learning and design excellence.
Business Development
& Studio Performance
Develop multi-year revenue goals and monthly forecasts, keeping the Executive Team informed on pipeline, win/loss rates, and strategic initiatives. Lead business development efforts, including prospect prioritization and securing new clients. Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships while overseeing the development of proposals and contracts. Lead client interviews, identify team of consultants, develop/review proposals, and direct contract negotiations ensuring strategic alignment. Utilize CRM tools to track pipeline value, client stages, and contact management. Responsible for studio financial performance. Develops top line revenue goals, profitability targets, and manages the studio’s budget. High proficiency in utilizing financial reporting and ERP system to identify opportunities for studio/project performance enhancements and/or course corrections.
Experience & Qualifications:
Alignment with Pfluger’s purpose of “ inspiring people to create a more meaningful human experience ,” with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. Proven leadership success in managing teams, delivering high-quality craft and products, and driving business development. Passionate advocate for innovative design, exceeding client expectations, and embodying core values in decision-making. High integrity, accountability, and exceptional communication skills. Expertise in designing learning environments with general knowledge of REVIT and enthusiasm for generative design. ERP system knowledge preferred, or a strong systems-oriented mindset. Professional degree in Architecture is required. Licensed/Registered
Architect is required. Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.
Location: The Managing Principal is expected to commute daily to Pfluger’s local office and travel to studio and client locations across the state.
