Position: General Surgeon (Perm)

Overview:
Springfield Hospital invites experienced General Surgeons to join our dedicated team in a supportive rural healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive general surgical care to patients aged 16 and above.
- Perform elective and emergency surgeries, including gallbladders, hernias, appendectomies, bowel procedures, and upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies.
- Conduct approximately 100 endoscopies per month independently, as no gastroenterologists are on staff.
- Manage solo coverage for surgeries, with a goal of maintaining a team of two full-time General Surgeons complemented by locum tenens as needed.
- Handle preoperative assessments, intraoperative procedures, and postoperative patient care.
- Participate actively in the Emergency Department, which handles approximately 18,000 visits annually.
- Work collaboratively with anesthesia providers, primarily CRNAs, as no anesthesiologists are on-site.
- Maintain timely response to call duties: within one hour to the hospital and within 15 minutes of page notification.
- Adhere to scheduled clinic days and operating room sessions, with flexibility for added procedures and patient consultations as needed.
- Contribute to a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of post-residency General Surgery experience; at least 5 years preferred.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
- DEA certification required.
- Ability to obtain Vermont medical license within approximately 90 days; DOs considered with a preference for quick credentialing.
- Prior experience with endoscopic procedures is strongly preferred.
- Must reside within or relocate to a 1-hour radius of Springfield.
- No recent lapses in certification; must have current certification.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a rural hospital setting.
- Availability to work a four-day work week (Monday Thursday), with scheduled call responsibilities.
Schedule & Compensation:
Work Schedule:- Monday: Operating Room
- Tuesday: GI Endoscopy
- Wednesday: Operating Room, GI Endoscopy, or Clinic
- Thursday: Clinic
- Call: Approximately 10 days/month, including one weekend; additional call compensated at $1,500/day.
- Flexible days off when working weekends.
Compensation & Benefits:- Base Salary: Starting at $400,000, commensurate with experience and training.
- Additional Compensation: wRVU-based incentives, sign-on bonus (negotiable), and reimbursed relocation expenses ($10,000 $20,000 based on distance).
- Over-Call Compensation: $1,500 per day for call days exceeding the baseline 10.

Additional Details:
- The hospital does not have surgical robotics or ICU facilities, limiting certain case types.
- No pediatric patients due to absence of onsite pediatric services.

- Candidates must commit to a quick start, with full licensure possible within 90 days.
- Not eligible for visa sponsorship; only candidates with valid US work authorization accepted.
