**POSITION OVERVIEW:** The Neonatologist is the team leader for newborn care delivery in the Perinatal Center and the NICU located at St. Charles Bend. The physician will oversee the NICU multidisciplinary care team and will have clinical oversight for the Advanced Practice Team.

The Neonatologist will provide clinical leadership and support to the Resuscitation team in the Family Birth Center.

Primary clinical duties include clinical consultations, admissions, daily rounds, procedures, and discharge planning. Skill set includes all aspects and procedures as they relate to NICU care. The Neonatologist serves as medical control for babies being transported throughout the region.

Embedded in the role is leadership and participation in key administrative meetings, Quality Improvement, Morbidity & Mortality review and Outreach support.

In addition, the Neonatologist will provide support to a planned Telemedicine program at referral delivery centers.* Practice and model excellence in the neonatology care domains of diagnosis, aligning treatment goals to patient values, making definitive diagnoses, guiding treatment, ensuring follow-up care, promoting growth, and preventing illness.* Practice medicine within the scope of license, training and credentialing.* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care while demonstrating expert knowledge of evidence-based neonatal intensive and neonatal critical care* Collaborate with other members of the NICU providers and multidisciplinary team to ensure a world-class patient experience.* Collaborates with pharmacy to provide appropriate medications accurately in accordance with SCHS policies and procedures for medication administration.* Analyzes data collected to determine health status and identify differential diagnoses based on history, physical exam, and review of radiographic and laboratory data.* Manages therapeutic regimen as outlined by established protocols for patients with acute illnesses. Reassesses and modifies plan as necessary to achieve medical and health goals.* Documents reassessment and response to treatment to determine effectiveness of plan of care.* Performs indicated routine or emergent procedures.* Performs invasive diagnostic and supportive procedures including airway management and intubation, non-invasive ventilation, mechanical ventilation, central venous and arterial access, therapeutic hypothermia, and hemodynamic support.* Oversee continuous monitoring of vital signs, oxygenation, growth and nutrition, multisystem organ function and neurodevelopment* Provides counseling, education, anticipatory guidance, and support for patients and family members.* Serves as a liaison with discharge planners or with other agencies providing post-hospital care; accurately completes patient discharge instructions and/or discharge summaries.* Provides emergency care, as required, according to basic life support and advanced cardiac life support protocols.* Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.* Be familiar with the SCHS organization structure.* Participate in SCHS meetings and assist in policy formation for SCHS and Physician’s practice.* Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity.

Must attest to having adequate (CME) to meet maintenance of board certification and compliance with MSO rules and continuing privileges without restriction.* Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted.* Maintain active privileges at a St. Charles Health System hospital sufficient to permit performance of job duties.* Participates in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, patient and caregiver.* Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests. Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.* Delivers first-rate customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, and is timely, efficient and accurate, and courteous.* Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.* Provide a therapeutic presence in service to others by purposefully responding to the needs of patients/customers in a caring way.* This includes introducing oneself and stating your purpose, asking the patient their preferred name, spending time with the patient to determine their care goals, active listening, and using skillful communications (appropriate touch, eye contact, etc.).* Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health system’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health system’s investigations and proceedings.* Oregon license as MD/DO* Board certified or eligible in Neonatology.

To be board certified or qualified to sit for the boards in primary area of practice at the Hospital.

Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency or fellowship training are required to become board certified within seven years of residency or fellowship training.* Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.* Maintain unrestricted DEA number.* Maintain unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.* Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.* Additional certifications may be required based on privileges granted to provider my Medical Staff Services at SCHS inpatient locations.* A minimum of 5 years’ active practice in neonatology* Advanced written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and professionally represent St. Charles Health System* Experience working in a team environment and proven ability to collaborate, manage facilitation and consensus building among health care professionals and agencies to achieve expected results* Epic EMR software experience* Quality Improvement experience* Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS.* Strong team working and collaborative skills.* Ability to multi-task and work independently.* Attention to detail.* Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with stressful personal interactions.* Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems.* Intermediate in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel).St. Charles Health System is a private, nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing high-quality care and the latest in health care technology to the communities it serves.
