team. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Located in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood, UChicago Medicine River East is a state-of-the-art outpatient center featuring a wide range of care services. In addition to those listed below, we offer infusion therapy, lab services, and radiology services, including CT, MRI, mammography, X-ray, DEXA scan and ultrasound.
In this role, a Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood from outpatients under minimal supervision. Includes patient and order verification, generation of specimen collection labels, and instruction for random urine collection.
Essential Job Functions
Performs venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise and in a customer service oriented fashion, adhering to all established policies and procedures
Conducts on-site laboratory tests on specimens as required
Properly prepares, labels and packages specimens for delivery through pneumatic tube system
Stocks blood drawing area and inventories supplies for reordering.
Cleans/sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work area following safety, cleanliness, and infection control procedures
Administers glucose tolerance tests and schedules subsequent draws according to dosage times
Provides accurate collection instructions for random urine specimens and process according to policies
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Training in phlebotomy from an accredited program; 3-4 years of practical experience with references
Thorough knowledge of asepsis; manual dexterity and accuracy
Ability to follow directions and established procedures with attention to detail
Demonstrate ability to utilize institutional computer systems
Demonstrate ability to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare workers
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and document appropriately, perform in stressful situations; handle large volumes of patients within narrow timeframes (up to 75-100 patients per day)
Ability to stand, stoop, push, lift and walk distances up to 6 city blocks in length, and ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment
Current CPR certificate
Preferred Qualifications
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification
Certification as medical assistant
National certification through American Medical Technologists as a registered phlebotomy technician

Job Type/FTE: Part-Time 0.5 FTE
Shift: Days - 5 shifts per week - Monday - Thursday and Saturday
Work Location: Onsite - River East
Unit/Department: Multi-Speciality

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 20 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the day shift, between the hours of 8 am - 12 pm and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 90% at the River East Clinic and 10% at various offsite locations. The days of the week that you are scheduled will vary depending on the week, but we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work on weekends (Saturday) once per week.

Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
