Responsibilities

Clinical Care

– Provide assessment, triage, and therapeutic management in inpatient, ambulatory, or outpatient settings, including medical history, physical exam, diagnostic testing, treatment planning, and prescription of medication in accordance with institutional and state guidelines. Collaborate with supervising physicians and, where permitted, function as an assistant in operative cases.

Patient Education & Psychosocial Support

– Educate patients and families on care plans, medications, and discharge instructions; provide psychosocial support as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Information Management

– Ensure accurate documentation and protect patient information from unauthorized disclosure.

Quality Management

– Demonstrate high ethical standards, comply with regulatory requirements, and support quality improvement initiatives.

Professional Development

– Engage in continued competency projects, serve as a resource for new staff and students, report safety events, and contribute to research or protocol development.

Qualifications Education

Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

Experience

Clinical experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line preferred but not required.

APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the affiliated medical staff of a YNHHS hospital and completed the medical staff credentialing process.

Licensure

Active PA Certification (NCCPA), Connecticut State PA License, ACLS/BLS certification; DEA license when indicated.

Pediatric position: PALS; neonatal care: NRP certification.

Additional licensure or certification may be required based on specialty.
