Program Summary The Refugee & Immigrant Family Strengthening (RIFS) program was launched in 1998 to support immigrant and refugee survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. RIFS offers safety planning, crisis intervention, housing solutions, case management, interpretation, translation, legal advocacy, court accompaniment, transportation, immigration assistance, prevention education, and outreach.

Position Summary DV/SA Advocates provide survivor-centered, strengths-based, empowerment services to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Responsibilities include advocacy, direct services, case management, and coordination with multidisciplinary partners to help clients reach their goals.

Essential Functions

Adhere to program, agency, and federal legal policies on client confidentiality.

Implement a survivor-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed empowerment model.

Collaborate with internal and external service providers to identify survivors and cases affected by domestic violence.

Assess potential participants for eligibility, conduct intake sessions and eligibility screening for other services.

Navigate risk assessment alongside survivors and provide immediate and ongoing safety planning.

Develop a case management plan for each participant, provide short-term crisis intervention, long-term housing stability, restraining and stalking order assistance, peer supports, mental health referrals, employment assistance, and other needed services.

Assist participants in navigating and accessing appropriate services and follow through on referrals.

Advocate and coordinate with service providers, attorneys, law enforcement, the legal system, other Advocates, and management.

Access family legal services and obtain protective orders as necessary.

Make referrals to legal immigration services; assist participants with documents, evidence, support letters, and law-enforcement clearance.

Provide or secure interpretation, translation, and accessibility services.

Maintain confidential participant files, including records of intakes, case management plans, and all contacts and referrals.

Maintain a high level of confidentiality of participants’ identifying information, meeting VAWA minimum standards.

Complete data entry, case notes, client file updates, reports, and all other administrative tasks within given timelines.

Be prepared to travel to hospitals and mental health sites to support sexual- assault survivors.

Offer survivors clear and direct options concerning confidentiality, medical exams, community resources, and next steps; liaise with medical staff if needed.

Secondary Functions

Perform outreach and educational activities within immigrant and refugee communities and local service providers.

Actively participate in relevant network meetings, internal IRCO meetings, and community engagement events and presentations.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements Education & Experience:

High school diploma required; some college coursework preferred.

Experience in advocacy and/or nonprofit required.

40-hour Domestic Violence Advocate certification within 10 working days of hire.

Fluency in English.

Experience with Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.

Background check required.

Valid driver’s license and current auto-insurance; full use of automobile during work hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong community-focused, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.

Effective verbal, written, and phone communication.

Ability to work in a multilingual, multibackground team.

Fluency in another language, preferably Spanish.

Physical, Mental, & Environmental Requirements:

Supervisory Responsibilities Positions at this level are not responsible for supervisory functions but may orient/train new employees or volunteers as needed.
