Tax Manager – CPA Firm
(San Antonio, TX)
(First 90 days on-site, hybrid schedule thereafter)
Our client is a well-established, full‑service CPA firm headquartered in San Antonio. They have been serving businesses and individuals throughout South Texas for over 30 years, delivering high‑quality tax, accounting, audit, and consulting services. Known for technical expertise, responsive client service, and long‑lasting relationships, they work with a diverse mix of closely held businesses, professional service firms, real estate entities, high‑net‑worth individuals, trusts, and estates.
The Role As Tax Manager, you will take on a leadership position within the tax department, managing complex compliance and planning engagements while developing staff and senior associates.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and review federal and state tax returns for C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, LLCs, individuals, trusts, and estates
Lead tax planning and consulting projects (entity selection, M&A, real estate transactions, succession planning, wealth transfer, etc.)
Research and resolve complex tax issues using CCH, RIA Checkpoint, BNA, or equivalent tools
Proactively identify tax‑saving opportunities for clients
Act as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of clients
Supervise, mentor, and review the work of tax staff and seniors
Contribute to firm‑wide technical training and practice development initiatives
Collaborate with the firm’s audit and accounting teams on integrated client solutions
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (MST preferred)
6+ years of recent public accounting tax experience (compliance + planning)
Deep technical knowledge of individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary taxation
Proven ability to manage multiple engagements and client relationships concurrently
Strong leadership, coaching, and staff development skills
Excellent communication and client‑facing presence
Proficiency with tax preparation software (CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, UltraTax, etc.) and Microsoft Office
