SUMMARY:

The Corporate Director of Safety and Emergency Management provides oversight of the corporate functions of Safety and Emergency Management in providing a safe environment for our patients, visitors, staff, and providers while also positioning LifeBridge Health to prepare for emergency events and provide responsible management, response and recovery in the event of a major emergency situation. To provide liaison with local and state emergency management partners. Interacts with LifeBridge Health senior leadership representing Corporate Safety and Emergency Management. Partners with Corporate trainers and advocates for necessary training on the topics of Emergency Management and Safety.

Responsibilities:

Communicates with supervisor(s), subordinates, LifeBridge community members and external agencies such as OSHA, MIEMS, MEMA, and local government.

Consults with and advises Corporate and Hospital Leadership on a routine basis of any significant issues related to Safety, Environment of Care and Emergency Management.

Maintains open lines of communications with all direct reports daily.

Ensures patients, family members and staff are kept aware of critical issues and information of interest.

Performs other related administrative, managerial, or technical duties as required or directed by the AVP of Security/Safety/Emergency Management/Parking & Transportation, or the SVP of Campus Services.

Works with Corporate trainers and advocates for necessary training on the topics of Emergency Management and Safety. Interacts with LifeBridge Health senior leadership representing Corporate Safety and Emergency Management.

Develops partnerships and memorandums of agreement/understandings with partners within the organization and communities. Coordinates the planning of emergency preparedness drills/exercise including those involving local, state and/or federal emergency services agencies.

Leads the formulation and implementation of Policies and Procedures pertaining to Safety, Emergency Preparedness & Management and Continuity of Operations for LifeBridge Health.

Leads and assists in the development of operating policies, procedures, systems, programs, and standards to ensure documentation, implementation and compliance.

Participates in planning related to Safety Projects and Emergency Management Projects for LifeBridge Health Facilities.

Monitors regulatory issues to assure the Health System is meeting all requirement in the areas of Safety, Emergency Preparedness, the Joint Commission, OSHA, as well as state and local requirements.

Develops and ensures that a system-wide base emergency operation plan and supplemental materials are up-to-date and effective, including all reporting, drills/exercises, and hazard vulnerability analyses.

Supports each hospital's Emergency Management Plans, assisting with the effectiveness of each plan, the testing of each plan and provides a unified command structure during system-wide drills, emergencies, and disasters.

Plans, organizes, leads, and manages the corporate activities related to emergency preparedness and management.

Facilitates disaster planning and response and recovery coordination.

Coordinates the planning of emergency preparedness drills/exercise including those involving local, state and/or federal emergency services agencies.

Develops, updates, and coordinates the system-wide Continuity of Operations Plan.

Provides guidance, and oversight in development of individual facility Continuity of Operations Plans.

Oversees the budget process (Operating and Capital) for all areas and departments of responsibility.

Assists in the preparation of the budgets and allocation of funds for the departments under his/her control.

Reviews the recommendations and projected costs for these departments based on knowledge of the operating procedures.

Reviews variance reports on budget performance and documents appropriately. Evaluates for areas of cost savings.

Facilitates the preparation of needed and appropriate grant requests on emergency disaster response and or safety for LBH.

Delegates, guides, and leads the Corporate Safety and Emergency Management Functions. Ensures the efficient, economic, and quality performance of the assigned areas of responsibility to support and provide a safe environment for patients and staff.

Ensures compliance with all code, licensure, federal state and accreditation standards related to Safety and Emergency Management. Ensures effective problem resolution within established guidelines.

Facilitates disaster planning and response and recovery coordination for the system.

Delegates and oversees the planning of emergency preparedness drills/exercises including those involving local, state and/or federal emergency services agencies.

Proactively develops relationships and ensures effective collaboration and coordination including Command Center activations and exercise activations.

Supervises the Safety and Emergency management Coordinators at each facility and provides coaching, training, and support for each individual assigned to the Department.

Oversees the Investigation of safety related Incidents and ensures proper follow-up and corrective action.

Develops, and implements policies and procedures.

Serves as liaison with local and state emergency management partners.

Interacts with LifeBridge Health senior leadership representing Corporate Safety and Emergency Management.

Monitors performance activity, safety, emergency preparedness and regulatory issues and regularly solicits performance feedback from customers and staff.

Evaluates the performance of the staff to provide for professional development and to maximize contributions towards established goals and objectives.

Regularly tours the facilities and services areas to solicit feedback regarding performance of staff, facility needs, and recommendations from staff.

Ensures effective problem resolution within established guidelines.

Oversees the Investigation of safety related Incidents and ensures proper follow-up and corrective action.

Develops, and implements policies and procedures.

Works in conjunction with internal and external organizations, agencies and professional groups to meet the regulatory requirements of the Health System.

Attends and serves on professional/civil service organizations as Hospital representative as necessary.

Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional growth to develop and keep abreast of the most current trends in healthcare administration.

Participates in required meetings, to include but not limited to, Board, Department Head, Department Managers, Service Recovery, Safety Committee, Environment of Care, Quality etc.

Serves as consultant for the Emergency Management and Safety Committees at each facility within LifeBridge Health.

Participates in state and local planning exercise activities appropriate for LBH facilities.

Proactively develops relationships and ensures effective collaboration and coordination including HICS Command Center activations and exercise activations.

Chairs or co-chairs the organization’s Emergency Preparedness Committee.

Develops partnerships and memorandums of agreement/understandings with partners within the organization and communities. Coordinates the planning of emergency preparedness drills/exercise including those involving local, state and/or federal emergency services agencies.

Oversees the corporate functions of Safety and Emergency Management and supervises the daily activities and personnel performing those functions. Directs the system-wide Emergency Management & Environment of Care activities.

Works with subordinate Safety/Emergency Management Coordinators in developing and setting goals for performance.

Motivates staff to perform and carry out their mission in line with the values and strategic goals of the organization.

Evaluates performance and provides coaching, performance planning, corrective action as necessary.

Leads staff by providing a positive example, providing motivation, feedback, acknowledgment for positive performance and accomplishment. Controls subordinate behavior by ensuring staff are performing in line with LifeBridge Health values and standards of performance, taking corrective action if needed.

Qualifications And Requirements:

5-7 years of relevant experience.

Bachelor's degree is required from a nationally accredited college or university; Master’s degree from a nationally accredited college or university preferred in safety or emergency preparedness-related field is preferred.

Certified Safety and Health Official is required.
