Job Summary Aircraft Mechanic I – Aviation Ordnance will conduct maintenance on H‑60 series helicopters, including the MH‑60R. Duties span airframe, engine, avionics, landing gear, rotor systems, and more.
Responsibilities
Perform repairs and rebuilds across all aircraft systems—structure, engines, rotors, avionics, hydraulic units, and flight surfaces.
Use tools and equipment such as welders, drills, rivet guns, and sheet metal brakes for aircraft parts maintenance.
Read and interpret maintenance manuals, technical data, and service bulletins to plan and execute repairs.
Conduct regular maintenance inspections (175‑hour, progressive, phase, and periodic hourly & calendar) to detect cracks, leaks, corrosion, or wear on components.
Use testing equipment for engine operations and replace damaged parts.
Perform pre‑flight, thru‑flight, and post‑flight inspections; service aircraft (flushing gearboxes, cleaning filters, greasing moving parts, checking brakes).
Jack, tow, and move aircraft; spot aircraft and maintain safe operational condition.
Enter maintenance records and ensure all repairs are documented correctly.
Lead and supervise junior mechanics, ensuring safety and quality during all tasks.
Specialize in engine repair, airframe maintenance, or avionics as needed.
Ensure compliance with safety and quality procedures, including hazmat handling and FOD prevention; participate in safety programs and housekeeping duties.
Maintain detailed records of all maintenance performed in OOMA or similar systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Additional Responsibilities
Participate in Aviation Gas Free Program and obtain necessary support equipment licenses.
Comply with all safety protocols, training requirements, and emergency response duties.
Maintain necessary certifications such as Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) or Quality Assurance Representative (QAR).
Qualifications & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years of experience with H‑60 series aircraft (or equivalent rotary aircraft). MH‑60R experience preferred.
At least 5 years Aviation Ordnance, MH‑60R CDI/CDQAR experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain qualifications in line with U.S. Navy instructions (e.g., CDI, QAR). Ordnance certification required.
Must pass and maintain a Tier 3 Background Check; some roles may require a Secret clearance.
Technical skills: read and interpret technical data, manuals, and special operating instructions.
Language skills: read, write, and understand English.
Additional Requirements
Work with foreign cultures and languages.
Successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screen and medical examination.
Meet physical requirements for the position.
Compliance with safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials as required.
Hold a valid state driver's license.
Working Conditions
Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
Computer usage for documentation; clear written and verbal English required.
Eye, hearing, and speech communication in English; constant mental alertness and planning/organizing skills.
Climbing aircraft using aircraft step and all types of ladders or stands.
Standing long periods of time with minimal sitting.
Work under extreme weather conditions; use proper PPE and safety procedures.
