Forward Deployed Software Engineer (TS/SCI) – Washington DC

About the Position You operate at the intersection of TRM’s technology and our government customers’ most critical missions. You build, deploy, and iterate on systems in real operational environments, often with incomplete information and evolving requirements.

Deliver mission outcomes by developing and deploying greenfield technical solutions—from prototypes to production systems—across diverse technology stacks.
Learn and apply new skills rapidly, whether building AI‑powered applications, designing data pipelines, extending full‑stack systems, or integrating with secure government environments.
Serve as a technical partner to mission stakeholders, translating ambiguous needs into actionable engineering work.
Own end‑to‑end delivery: requirements gathering, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support in production environments.
Create clarity and momentum in high‑stakes settings, removing blockers, simplifying complexity, and driving solutions forward with urgency.
Capture ground‑truth feedback from operators and incorporate it into TRM’s product direction, engineering practices, and long‑term programs.
What we’re looking for
Background in full‑stack or backend engineering with NodeJS, Python, Postgres/SQL, and React.
Strong fundamentals in software engineering, with proficiency in at least one language and the ability to pick up others quickly.
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies rapidly (cloud, AI/ML, distributed systems, data processing frameworks, full‑stack frameworks).
Evidence of high ownership: setting goals, executing with urgency, and reliably delivering outcomes even in ambiguous environments.
Ability to work directly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders, communicate clearly, and build trust in mission‑critical settings.
Comfort working across the stack—backend code, tuning ML models, configuring cloud infrastructure, debugging data pipelines.
Desire to work on hard problems with real consequences for national security and financial integrity.
Candidate must have an active TS/SCI clearance

Rapid Issue Resolution: Identify and diagnose critical onsite issues, set up incident channels, and implement fixes in minutes to hours.
Navigating Bureaucratic Hurdles: Anticipate and proactively address potential customer‑side delays, build relationships with stakeholders, and seek alternative approval pathways.
Efficient Knowledge Transfer: Conduct knowledge sharing sessions and maintain up‑to‑date documentation in Notion and Jira.
Engineering Levels Engineer:
Defines project milestones, executes decisions independently, mentors juniors, and drives technical debt reduction.
Senior Engineer:
Designs system improvements, delivers efficient reusable systems, mentors peers, and enhances cross‑team collaboration.
Staff Engineer:
Drives the scope and execution of multiple high‑impact projects, partners with stakeholders on roadmaps, mentors the organization, and ensures system health.
Compensation
Estimated base salary: $200,000 – $265,000 (geography adjusted).
Eligible to participate in TRM’s equity plan.
