Position Overview The Vice President of Legal serves as FTC Solar’s legal officer and strategic advisor to executive leadership. This role is responsible for defining and executing the company’s global legal strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, mitigating risk, and supporting key business initiatives across all functional areas. The VP of Legal will lead a high‑performing legal department, oversee complex legal matters—including corporate governance, commercial contracting, litigation, employment issues, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance—and ensure alignment between legal strategy and business objectives. The ideal candidate is a forward‑thinking, business‑minded legal executive who can balance risk management with innovation and growth, while protecting the company’s reputation and enabling long‑term success.

Preferred Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL. We are also open to considering remote work for exceptional candidates.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy

Lead, develop, and mentor the legal department, fostering a proactive, solutions‑oriented culture.

Serve as a strategic partner to the executive team, providing clear guidance on legal implications of business decisions.

Drive the company’s corporate governance framework.

Legal Operations & Risk Management

Oversee all legal matters including contracts, mergers & acquisitions, intellectual property, corporate governance, employment law, and litigation.

Develop, implement, and maintain global compliance programs, policies, and risk‑management frameworks.

Identify emerging legal and regulatory risks and recommend appropriate actions.

Business Enablement

Provide legal counsel supporting new products, technology initiatives, partnerships, and international market expansion.

Support strategic transactions, including M&A, joint ventures, financings, and complex commercial agreements.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure legal considerations are integrated into business strategy.

External Relations & Budget Oversight

Manage relationships with external counsel to ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective legal services.

Oversee the legal department budget and optimize use of internal and external resources.

Represent the company in interactions with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

10+ years of progressive legal experience, including substantial leadership experience in a corporate legal department or reputable law firm.

Deep expertise in corporate law, risk management, compliance, and contract negotiation.

Demonstrated ability to advise and influence senior executives and Boards.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in renewable energy, clean tech, hardware, or other relevant technology‑driven industries.

Advanced certifications or training in corporate governance, compliance, or risk management.

Experience managing legal matters in multinational or highly regulated environments.

Proven success leading complex M&A transactions, litigation strategy, or international operations.

Strong familiarity with intellectual property and technology‑related legal issues.

Estimated Salary: $160,000.00‑$200,000.00 (Fort Lauderdale, FL) or $124,938.00‑$178,483.00 (Miami, FL)
