Position Summary The Department invites enthusiastic educators for a tenure‑track position to begin in Fall 2026. Applicants will be considered regardless of field of specialization. This collegial, highly collaborative department promotes experiential and engaged learning that highlights faculty expertise and scholarship. The contract is for 9.5 months and carries a teaching load of 20 credits per academic year, typically fulfilled through five 4‑credit courses spread over two semesters. This is an on‑campus position.

Responsibilities

Instruct a range of undergraduate courses in the sociology curriculum, including sociological theory.

Assess students’ work and provide detailed feedback on how to improve their content knowledge, critical thinking skills, oral and written communication skills, etc.

Mentor undergraduate students through one‑on‑one and group interactions, including independent study, thesis, and internship opportunities.

Engage students in research where possible.

Create inclusive spaces in and outside the classroom.

Develop opportunities for community‑engaged learning.

Leverage experience and content knowledge to develop and review curricula for the sociology major and minor.

Contribute to continual program improvement through annual evaluation of program outcomes and objectives.

Prepare departmental reports as requested.

Attend conferences and workshops as necessary to remain active in the field(s) of study; engage with campus resources and professional organizations to further develop teaching, pedagogical, and mentoring skills; complete campus‑wide training as required by the Offices of Academic Affairs and Human Resources.

Pursue current and new research activities in the field(s) of study, including new research projects, writing/dissemination of current and future research, and presentation of research at conferences or other appropriate venues.

Perform other departmental duties and attend activities as necessary, including attending department and college meetings and participating in committees, task forces, and others as required.

Basic Qualifications

Completed a Ph.D. in Sociology by August 2026.

Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and research.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching proficiencies in social inequality or qualitative methods.

Research that includes undergraduate students.

Record of fostering an environment that stimulates intellectual growth and engagement.

Experience with designing and teaching innovative courses that add to the current departmental offerings.

Salary Range

Assistant Professor: $62,000 – $67,000

Associate Professor: $72,000 – $78,000

Professor: $83,000 – $88,000

Employment Conditions Position is contingent upon successful completion of the College’s background screening process.
