Research Project Lead

for our CMS Data Project (Proposal).

The Opportunity As the Research Project Lead, you will serve as a key leader on a large CMS contract, driving empirical, analytical, and conceptual work to link datasets that improve payment accuracy and inform policy decisions.

Core Responsibilities Project Leadership

Oversee and monitor major research projects, ensuring alignment with CMS objectives.

Keep the Project Director informed of progress, challenges, and accomplishments.

Anticipate and mitigate risks related to cost, schedule, quality, and timeliness.

Research Design & Execution

Coordinate and document research needs for CMS and other government partners.

Develop and implement study plans, including empirical analyses, survey instruments, and protocols.

Conduct literature reviews and assess policy implications of findings.

Data Integration & Analysis

Lead analyses using Medicare claims data (FISS, MCS, VMS, CWF), provider enrollment data (PECOS), and other CMS administrative datasets.

Interpret Medicare A/B/C/D and Medicaid program and payment policies to inform research and recommendations.

Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with CMS and federal partners to ensure research outputs meet policy and operational needs.

Prepare clear documentation and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

What We Value

Education: At least a master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Health Policy, Economics, Data Science, or related field, with at least seven years of experience, or a PhD with at least four years of related experience.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience leading research projects similar to those described in the SOW.

At least 5 years interpreting Medicare and Medicaid payment policies and overseeing analyses using CMS datasets.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency with healthcare data systems and identifiers.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred:

Federal government experience.

Familiarity with CMS research protocols and administrative data sources.

Compensation This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $105,120 to $168,192 and may vary by ten percent downwards depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
