Vice Chair of Research or Research Director Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai The Vice Chair of Research or Research Director of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science (the “Department”) has primary responsibility to further develop a robust research program within the Department that is aligned with the department’s goals and institutional priorities. The position, based on the candidate’s seniority, is focused on elevating the research profile and scientific impact of the Department through recruitment of new faculty and development of existing faculty to achieve national recognition and prominence in the field of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences. This role provides strategic direction and oversight for the Department’s research enterprise – with particular emphasis on clinical research – as well as including mentoring research faculty and trainees at all levels. The ideal candidate will be a faculty member with a robust track record of independent clinical research with funding from NIH and other sources, demonstrate successful collaboration with other members of the scientific community, history of scholarly productivity as evidenced by publications in high impact journals, and a track record of generous and successful mentorship. Other desired characteristics for this position include strong interpersonal communication skills, readiness to partner with academic faculty and administrative staff, a professional with a strong understanding of research finances and a visionary thought leader who wants to grow and develop the Department into a research powerhouse.

Expectations

Reporting: The Vice Chair of Research or Research Director will report to the System Chair of the Department and collaborate with the leadership of the Mount Sinai Health System and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to build a research enterprise with the Department.

Leadership: Play a pivotal role in shaping the Department’s research priorities, goals, and objectives with the intent to propel the Department’s research standing to among the top in the nation.

Evaluation and Metrics: Provide regular updates on the Department’s research portfolio and individual faculty performance ensuring synergy and alignment.

Qualifications

MD or equivalent terminal degree with advanced clinical training in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science.

Proven leadership experience leading diverse teams in matrixed environments.

Extensive experience and demonstrated success in obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive science research.

Strong previous track record mentoring and developing faculty and trainees.

Excellent communication and inter‑personal skills.
