Job Description An Alarm System Inspector conducts listing, annual field inspections, and central station monitoring inspections for burglar and fire alarm system installations. Duties include examining equipment, preparing inspection reports, reviewing results for compliance with UL listing requirements, coordinating revisits, and establishing new listings.
Responsibilities
Conduct all burglar and fire alarm system field inspections and service tests to ensure installation companies provide certificates and services in compliance with UL and other applicable requirements.
Prepare and submit inspection results to relevant UL forms, drafting detailed inspection reports.
Perform annual field inspections to verify performance, monitoring device arrangement, circuit continuity, wiring, and other security elements against registered system types.
Maintain current knowledge of applicable equipment, installation standards, regulations, and UL policies.
Carry out listing inspections of burglar and fire alarm systems, confirming component compatibility and standard compliance.
Communicate with customers to schedule appointments, explain UL requirements, and resolve findings.
Assist with public education on burglar and fire alarm safety when required.
Conduct central station monitoring inspections for equipment, standby power, and service compliance.
Read and interpret equipment literature, wiring diagrams, and building blueprints to verify UL installation, operation, and maintenance criteria.
Develop and manage a work schedule, including customer appointments, file reviews, certificate selection, and travel arrangements.
Evaluate building plans and perform site inspections for suitability of construction materials, electrical systems, utilities, and security.
Analyze previous years’ inspection reports for verification and quality control.
Perform other duties as directed.
Qualifications
University or College Graduate in Electronics, Electrical, Computer, or System-related fields preferred.
Eight years of technical experience in Integrated Security Systems, Burglar Alarms, Fire Alarms, or a related industry preferred.
Certified qualifications such as CFAA Fire Alarm Technician License, ASTTBC Registered Fire Protection Technician with FA Endorsement, and/or ECABC certified are assets.
Working knowledge of applicable testing apparatus and techniques common to the fire and burglar alarm industry.
Knowledge of Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement Systems (ERCES) is a plus.
Technical knowledge of S1001, S301, S302, S536, S537, and S561 is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to prepare procedure reports and related documentation for listing inspections.
50% mobility (ability to travel up to 50% of the time) with assignments in the Chicagoland area, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
Strong communication skills.

Estimated salary range: $70,000 – $80,000 annually, with an annual bonus target of 10% of base salary.
