Senior Software Engineer – Hedge Fund Location: New York (5 days on site)
We are working with a fast‑growing, technology‑driven hedge fund based in New York, focused on systematic and discretionary investment strategies across global markets.
Role Overview We are seeking a highly skilled
Java or .NET Developer
to join our core engineering team. In this role, you will build and maintain high‑performance trading systems, real‑time data pipelines, analytics platforms, and mission‑critical applications used by our portfolio managers and quantitative researchers.
You will work closely with traders, quants, and fellow engineers to design elegant solutions for complex technical and business challenges, with plenty of room for innovation and ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and enhance low‑latency, high‑throughput systems in Java, Python or .NET
Build and maintain APIs, microservices, and distributed components
Collaborate with quants to integrate models, signals, and market data
Improve system reliability, scalability, and observability
Optimize performance and ensure robustness for real‑time trading environments
Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and SDLC improvements
Troubleshoot production issues and enhance monitoring/alerting automation
Required Qualifications
3+ years of professional software development experience (finance experience a plus)
Strong proficiency in
Java
or
C#/.NET
or
Python
Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
Experience with messaging frameworks (Kafka, RabbitMQ, ZeroMQ, etc.)
Familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases
Ability to write clean, testable, highly maintainable code
Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with end‑users
Preferred Skills
Experience in low‑latency or high‑performance system design
Background in trading systems, electronic markets, or market data feeds
Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) or containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
Exposure to Python for tooling and automation
Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, or SRE practices
