MMCC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:

The Executive Director (ED) of this 501(c)(3) organization will report to the Chair of the Board of Directors, support initiatives of the Board and its members, and be responsible for consistent achievement of the Mediation and Meeting Center of Charleston (“MMCC”)’s mission and objectives. The ED will be a non-voting member of the Board of Directors. The MMCC prides itself on being a local and dynamic institution. The Board has dedicated itself over the past 5 years to diversifying its membership, hiring committed staff, and focusing on community needs as it develops and expands programs to meet those needs. In addition to two outstanding part-time staffers who have been with the organization for more than a year, we have a dedicated roster of approximately 40 volunteer mediators, plus student and interpreter volunteers who assist in fulfilling our mission to provide accessible and affordable conflict resolution services to all who apply for our services.

Responsibilities As the MMCC continues to provide direct mediation services to the community while rebranding to emphasize our reach across the Lowcountry, key responsibilities will include fundraising, development, and working with our Board, two staff members and volunteers.

Leadership and Management Responsibilities:

Assisting with the implementation of our recently approved Rebranding Plan, including actively recruiting and engaging with donors and committee members;

Strategically identifying potential new Board members and advocates to support the mission of the organization and its programs;

Implementing effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes and assess needs.

Organizational Management:

Overall financial management; accounting for receipts and expenditures; implementing financial controls; compliance with federal, state and local laws; and reporting to the Board of Directors or Executive Committee monthly regarding these matters.

Working closely with and ultimately overseeing our two staff members to ensure that programs are being administered as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Managing daily operations, including donor database and finance system (Quickbooks)

Attending monthly Board meetings

Fundraising and Communications:

Leading the Board in fundraising by cultivating relationships with government, corporate and foundation leaders, and individual donors. This includes accompanying Board members to meetings with prospective donors;

Providing budgetary and other guidance to support Board decisions;

Deepening and refining all aspects of communications using multi-media channels with the goal of promoting the work of the MMCC;

Reporting progress and updates to the Board, funders, members and other constituents on the advancement of the organization’s goals through the design and publication of an annual report.

Planning and New Business

Developing, launching and managing new programs;

Serving as an external local and regional representative for the MMCC, publishing and communicating program results with an emphasis on the successes of the program as basis for cooperation with other regional mediation centers;

Building relationships with the community, civic leaders and courts to understand and meet their needs consistent with the vision and mission of the MMCC.

Qualifications The ED must be committed to the MMCC mission; training and experience in mediation preferred. Additionally, the following qualifications are desired:

Advanced degree, ideally in law or business, with at least 2 years of senior management experience;

Business acumen and ability to utilize the synergies of a strong board to support growth initiatives;

Experience in fundraising and donor stewardship

Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation;

Strong written and verbal communications skills;

Facility with Zoom and other technology as it will be utilized to advance the goals and work of the MMCC;

Ability to work effectively and sensitively with diverse groups of people and individuals;

An entrepreneurial, business, and results-oriented approach.

Ability to keep a big picture perspective while attending to details involved in the day-to-day operations of the organization

Compensation/Benefits

Range will be from $75,000 to $85,000, depending on experience. This compensation package is inclusive of a health insurance stipend. Reimbursement for work-related travel expenses will be provided.

Paid time off will be provided for major national holidays, with an additional two weeks’ paid time off per year.

Work week is 35 hours. Flex time is available with advance approval from the Board President.
