North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

Main duties of the job Key Results and deliverables:

Provide general obstetric and/or gynaecological services across a 10 PA job plan – 8.5 PA’s for direct clinical care and 1.5 PA’s for supporting professional activities with 3.5 PA’s for predictable scheduled sessions for emergency work.

Working across a rolling 12 week rota

The Department delivers a minimum of 98 hours of consultant presence on site for planned emergency work in scheduled sessions. The daytime emergency cover for Obstetrics & Gynaecology involves a requirement for a consultant to be on-site between 0800 hours and 2200 hours each day. Gynaecology emergency work is covered separately to obstetrics from 0800 hours to 1200 hours, Monday to Friday, by an on-site Gynaecology team.

Participate in the on-call rota with other colleagues, supported by resident doctors – this consists of a long day’s week 1:12 and a nights based week 1:12

Have a special interest in gynaecology oncology care

Be skilled in managing emergency gynaecology – support can be provided if necessary

Actively take part in Gynaecology leadership responsibilities and help implement national recommendations

Job plan will include regular Post-Menopausal Bleeding, Rapid Access Clinics and General Gynaecology clinics, and theatre lists, leadership roles and clinical governance

Person specification Qualifications and Training

Completed a recognised training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and be on the Specialist register or be within 6 months of admission to register.

Fully registered with GMC and hold a Licence to Practice

ATSM in Benign Gynaecology or Gynaecology Oncology

Knowledge and Skills

Understanding of freedom of information and data protection issues.

Understanding of current issues in the NHS.

Ability to formulate and revise policies and develop protocols.

Experience in training undergraduate students & postgraduate trainees.

Experience of participation in quality improvement and audit with supporting evidence

Attendance at a recognised management course.

Experience of committee / project management.

Publication in peer reviewed journals

Research in any areas of gynaecology or education

Experience

Be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to that required of a UK CCT holder.

Be able to demonstrate clinical experience in the management of: Colposcopy clinics Rapid access / 2 week rule Gynaecology clinics Gynaecology oncology multidisciplinary team work

Experience in counselling & training in breaking bad news.

Be able to operate independently on a range of surgical procedures both by laparoscopic and open surgical techniques.

Intermediate level gynaecology ultrasound scan

New Starters – Probationary Period For any new employees commencing employment with North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, you will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probationary period.
