CRNA (Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine)
We are seeking a CRNA to report to the Clinical Lead CRNA and the Division Chief of Nurse Anesthesia. Primary responsibilities include administering anesthetics and monitoring patients in the operating room.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Research and evaluate new procedures, diseases, medications, and equipment.
Work within safe parameters and seek assistance from attending anesthesiologists when necessary.
Apply knowledge of pre‑op, intra‑op, and post‑op care under normal and emergency conditions.
Demonstrate technical competence and dexterity performing anesthetic procedures.
Set up and manage all anesthesia equipment used in the BMC OR.
Pre‑Anesthesia Assessment & Case Preparation
Perform and document timely pre‑anesthesia assessments.
Review patient medical history, including anesthesia, drug, and allergy history.
Conduct focused physical examinations (heart, lungs, airway, ASA classification).
Plan anesthesia care and obtain informed consent.
Consult with attending anesthesiologist before each case for anesthesia plans.
Ensure supplies and equipment are ready for the anesthetic plan.
Order and administer pre‑anesthetic medications and fluids.
Intra‑operative Assessment
Select, apply, and insert monitoring devices.
Administer anesthesia, sedation, adjuncts, and accessory drugs and fluids.
Manage patient airway and pulmonary status.
Recognize priorities in clinical situations and use appropriate tests.
Maintain effective communication with the surgical team and attending anesthesiologist.
Facilitate emergence, recovery, and transfer to the recovery area, providing a thorough report.
Post‑Anesthesia Evaluation & Management
Implement acute and chronic pain management.
Perform and document post‑anesthesia evaluations and discharges from recovery area.
Provide a complete report of the anesthetic course for transfer of care.
Facilitate timely room turnover, including medicine and equipment prep.
Deliver medical services following JHU Service Standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a nurse anesthesia program approved by the MD Board of Nursing. If completed after 1/1/08, a Master’s Degree is required.
Current MD State RN and CRNA license.
Current CPR certification, ACLS required; credentialing before start date.
Additional education or related experience may substitute for required experience or education per JHU equivalency formula.
