Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) is seeking a dynamic and visionary Branch Manager to lead Central Library. Central Library offers a makerspace, study rooms, passport services, and the Ruth E. Lloyd Information Center that houses a special collection devoted to genealogy and local history with a focus on Virginia and Prince William County. The ideal candidate will be a skilled manager with a passion for public service, a talent for fostering collaboration, and a commitment to innovation. They will create a culture of teamwork, adaptability, and exceptional customer service, ensuring the library continues to meet the evolving needs of the community. They must have effective communication skills, supervisory experience, and knowledge of the administrative and programmatic operations of public libraries.
About This Role
Directly supervises management staff, including creating and writing annual evaluations, engaging the progressive disciplinary process as needed, and managing employees to improve/maximize performance.
Provides branch budget oversite, including managing aspects of the Friends of the Library and completing all applicable financial paperwork.
Managing the facility; submitting work requests as required.
Engages in communication with our stakeholders and provides excellent internal and external customer service
Minimum Requirements Master's degree in library or information science and 3 years of experience in Library Systems Operations to include 2 years of supervisory experience.
Preferences
2 or more years demonstrated successful management of a library department
2 or more years managing para-professional and professional staff to include experience with hiring and the disciplinary process
Experience revising, creating, and interpreting policies
Facility management
2 or more years experience overseeing budget, managing grant/non-profit funding
Experience working with an integrated service desk model
Special Requirements:
The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week exempt position. Central Library is currently open 6 days a week. The schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends. Schedule may vary depending upon the needs of the library.
Hiring Salary Range $91,162.50 - $106,499.25
