General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer – Permanent (Washington, D.C.)
Latitude Legal
is seeking an experienced General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer to lead comprehensive legal and compliance functions across multiple industries, including energy, technology, finance, international defense, and public policy. The role is fully on-site, five days per week in downtown Washington, D.C., and will report to the senior leadership team.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive legal and compliance leadership, including oversight of corporate governance, contract negotiation, risk management, and regulatory compliance programs across multiple industries and countries.
Advise business leadership on high‑stakes issues, ensuring alignment of legal strategies with business objectives.
Design, execute, and monitor compliance programs, including risk assessments, internal controls, and investigations.
Manage cross-border transactions, drafting, negotiating, and overseeing complex agreements, MOUs, policies, and consultancy contracts.
Maintain knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and international regulatory frameworks, including data privacy, FCPA/anti‑corruption, sanctions regimes, and government ethics/lobbying rules.
Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
At least 10 years of legal experience, including substantial work in regulatory, compliance, government contracts, and public policy environments.
Prior experience as General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, or senior in-house counsel strongly preferred.
Expertise in cross-border transactions and experience in energy, infrastructure, technology, or public policy sectors.
Proven track record designing and executing compliance programs and managing complex agreements.
Strong judgment and communication skills, capable of advising senior business leaders.
Outstanding professional references.
Licensed or eligible to become licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $200,000–$250,000, with bonuses and equity compensation.
