Job Description The CLT 2 plays a critical role in specimen processing and laboratory operations within the Genetics & Solid Tumors Lab. Responsibilities include receiving and accessioning biological samples, maintaining specimen integrity, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in multiple laboratory information systems while collaborating with healthcare providers and team members.

Key Responsibilities
Perform specimen processing: receive, sort, identify, accession, label samples; enter patient and specimen data into logbooks and laboratory computer systems; maintain spreadsheets and documentation.
Match specimens against requisitions, resolve discrepancies, archive, store, and return specimens as required.
Use appropriate cancellation codes, ensure credit/QA documentation is complete.
Audit paperwork, databases, and workflows for accuracy, compliance, and quality assurance.
Resolve problems, document non‑conforming events, and maintain organized records.
Prioritize work, adapt to workflow changes, and assist team members as needed.
Transport specimens correctly and safely, following regulations and proper packaging.
Provide excellent customer service, troubleshoot calls, and maintain professional relationships with providers.
Use critical thinking to make decisions, communicate issues to supervisors, and ensure specimen integrity.
Perform CLT 1 responsibilities as backup or support when needed.
Laboratory Operations & Teamwork
Manage workloads, communicate for assistance, and proactively support team projects.
Establish priorities, adapt to deadlines, and maintain efficient workflow.
Maintain a clean, organized work area and inform Leads of low inventory.
Share responsibility for emergency coverage and overtime.
Process Improvement & Quality Control
Assist in developing, evaluating, and implementing new or revised laboratory procedures and workflows.
Train and mentor new employees; review training progress and verify competence.
Complete required paperwork and training documents daily.
Perform special projects and related assignments as directed.
Communication & Customer Service
Serve as a lab contact for internal and external clients.
Communicate clearly and promptly via phone, email, fax, and in person.
Maintain professionalism during challenging interactions.
Promote teamwork within the Genetics Division and with external laboratories.
Safety
Apply laboratory safety and universal precautions with biohazardous, radioactive, and other hazardous materials.
Report hazards and unsafe practices; maintain knowledge of safety procedures.
Participate in disaster preparedness drills.
Qualifications Required:
High school graduation or equivalent.
Two (2) years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.
Desired:
Associate or bachelor’s degree in science.
Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory.
Experience with a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and pathology LIS (e.g., Epic, CARs).
Experience with MacIntosh and Windows personal computers.
Experience navigating databases such as Sunquest, CARS, EPIC, Beaker, GreenLIMS, HC1.

Recruitment incentive: $3,000 for eligible new employees.
Annual salary: $58,188 – $83,304.
