Position Summary The Medical Technologist in the core lab processes and performs routine and specialized laboratory testing on blood, urine, tissue and other body fluid secretions.

Schedule: 3rd shift, 11 pm – 7 am, Full Time.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties

Follows established procedures to perform routine, STAT or special tests recording all results accurately and meeting standards for complete and timely reporting.

Correlates and evaluates testing with laboratory data available on an individual patient basis for troubleshooting and triage with clinicians as needed.

Troubleshoots methodological failures.

Performs all required Quality Control procedures; documents results accurately; follows through appropriately on all outliers.

Notifies Core Lab Supervisor of any unusual or unexpected results.

Reports all critical values to the appropriate person, completes and maintains all required documentation.

Follows all organizational, departmental, and section policies (i.e. Universal Precautions, Fire Safety, QA documentation, Hazardous Waste Collection).

Assists with orientation of new staff members, students, residents, fellows, etc. as directed.

Reports laboratory test results by using the Laboratory Information System as directed.

Monitors and maintains instrumentation, ensures appropriate quality control and quality improvement in all aspects of laboratory function.

Participates in investigational and correlation studies as needed.

Transports specimens and reports as requested.

Job Requirements Required Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in medical technology or related science and 2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related science, attainment of degree within 6 months of start date.

2 years in an accredited blood center or transfusion service.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Required

Generalist multi-categorical certification, ASCP, NCA or HEW preferred or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures.

Knowledge of known risk and biohazards in the lab environment.

Communication skills sufficient to clearly, completely and accurately verbally relay laboratory data.

Compensation Range $23.80 – $34.38 per hour

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
