Responsibilities Supervise and participate in the provision of skilled nursing services with responsibility for determining the priorities of patient care needs, planning, assigning, reviewing and evaluating the work of subordinate nursing personnel; planning and providing nursing care and treatment services; may also be responsible for planning and implementing in‑service training programs for nurses and nursing assistants; serve as clinical specialists, providing direct service in complex nursing situations and demonstrating to the nursing staff new techniques and methods of patient care; and perform other related duties as assigned. This position is responsible for coordinating the daily management of the mental health services nursing unit. This position operates as the Mental Health Nurse for the Acute Mental Health Modules (AMHMs) and the Residential Treatment Unit (RTU) at Oahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) working within a multi‑disciplinary team inclusive of psychologists, social workers, recreational therapist, para‑medical assistants and other nursing staff.
Qualifications
Legal Authorization to Work Requirement
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
State of Hawaii Registered Nurse License
Applicants must possess a valid registered nurse license in the State of Hawaii at the time of application.
Experience
One and one‑half (1‑1/2) years of professional work experience as a registered nurse. At least one (1) year of the required experience must have been comparable to the next lowered level in the State service.
CPR Certification
Applicants must possess current CPR certification at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in Mental Health Nursing
Psychiatric Nursing Certification
Crisis Prevention Institute Certified Trainer
Other Requirements Participation in the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) requirements and related conditions: PREA requires that individuals who have engaged in sexual abuse or related offenses are not eligible for employment. Background check and drug screening are required for employees and applicants who are conditionally offered employment.
