Respiratory Therapist RRT – 15K Sign‑On Bonus!

Position Function The Respiratory Therapy Department follows the American Association for Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guidelines (AARC CPG). Therapists work in a physician‑supervised environment, providing critical‑care respiratory service to all patient age groups.
Job Relationships
Reports to the Technical Manager of Respiratory Therapy (or designee).
Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other health‑care professionals to plan, deliver, monitor, and evaluate respiratory care services for outpatients.
Authority
Provides all facets of critical‑care respiratory therapy based on patient assessment and hospital/department policies, procedures, and AARC CPG.
Initiates emergency protocols if a patient responds adversely to therapy, notifying the responsible physician and nurse while remaining at the bedside until relieved.
Responsibilities / Essential Functions
Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients and patients in accordance with Service Excellence Standards.
Reviews medical records, physician orders for completeness, indications for therapy, and contraindications before administering therapies and medications per AARC CPG.
Conducts comprehensive clinical patient assessment including cardiac, pulmonary, and neurologic status.
Assembles, calibrates, and monitors equipment per manufacturer specifications, ensuring proper function.
Administers ordered therapies, monitors patient response, and adjusts mechanical ventilators to achieve therapeutic effectiveness.
Performs routine oxygen, aerosol, emergent airway management, chest physiotherapy, postural drainage, and sputum induction.
Documents patient assessments, therapies, monitoring data, responses, and complications in the medical record per AARC CPG.
Provides emergency response for cardiopulmonary arrest, respiratory emergencies, and other emergencies, performing BLS maneuvers and maintaining annual AHA BLS certification.
Assists multidisciplinary care team in developing and implementing patient care plans, participating in reevaluation of care delivery.
Maintains departmental equipment, documents malfunctions, alerts supervisors, and helps monitor stock levels.
Measures respiratory parameters such as pulmonary function, gas exchange, tidal and minute ventilation, compliance, arterial blood gases, and end‑tidal CO₂.
Undergoes appropriate training to assist with bronchoscopies, sleep studies, and exercise testing.
Reporting Requirements
Reports patient condition, therapies, goals, and responses shift‑to‑shift.
Reports adverse reactions to pharmaceuticals or therapies.
Notifies of hospital variance reports.
Accountability
Maintains confidentiality and security of all patient data, both electronic and hard copy.
Abides by all hospital and department policies and procedures.
Accurately measures and calculates pulmonary parameters.
Demonstrates knowledge of critical‑care respiratory therapy and AARC CPG.
Qualifications Minimum Experience
Preferred: ≥1 year in respiratory therapy; low experience candidates considered.
Minimum Skills / Abilities
Interpersonal and communication skills to explain therapy and pulmonary tests to patients.
Certification / Licensure
RRT license in Massachusetts.
Certified in Basic Life Support by the AHA or Red Cross (required); Advanced Life Support Certification preferred.
Training
Must complete annual continuing education to maintain licensure.
Compensation Range $39.04 – $58.00 per hour.
