Chief Development Officer

Chief Development Officer (CDO)
to provide strategic vision, leadership, and direction for all fundraising and engagement activities at a time of great momentum.

Base pay range $220,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr
Reporting to the Head of School and serving as a critical member of the senior administrative team, the CDO will partner with the Head of School to cultivate lifelong relationships between Latin and its alumni, parents, and friends, as well as to further enhance the fundraising capability of the institution as it prepares to embark on its next campaign endeavor. This individual will establish priorities, objectives, and best practices for a comprehensive development program across major, endowed, and planned giving; the annual fund; alumni and parent engagement; and advancement services. With responsibility for a staff of seven, the CDO will bring a collegial, transparent, and team-oriented leadership style and a proven ability to motivate staff, keeping them inspired, energized, and focused on results. The next CDO will build upon a culture of lifelong learning, high achievement, and professionalism to ensure that the School’s alumni, current and former parents, trustees, and friends are actively engaged in the life of the institution.
The ideal candidate must possess a track record of success in creating highly efficient and effective development programs, as well as experience leading a high-performing fundraising and engagement operation to new levels of growth. With a deep appreciation for the mission, history, and core values of Latin, the CDO will also embody a leadership style that both fosters and promotes belonging and inclusion and, alongside the Head of School, will progress the School’s demonstrated commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion by developing strategies that support and contribute to an inclusive school-wide community culture.
Key Responsibilities And Essential Functions
An appreciation for the history, achievements, and aspirations of Latin School of Chicago, and the ability to effectively articulate the School’s vision to a diverse audience.
At least 10 years of progressively responsible fundraising and managerial experience in development. Depth of knowledge in all key areas of fundraising and engagement; a demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and close a comprehensive campaign.
Demonstrated ability and experience building upon an existing development program, resulting in a transformative increase in philanthropic revenue for an organization.
The cultural competency and sophistication to navigate a nuanced academic community; the desire and ability to build bridges and strong collaborative relationships with all members of an institution and with a diverse body of alumni and constituents.
Success in increasing the effectiveness of a development operation and its staff through established objectives and performance standards.
Proven management skills in establishing a team and goal-oriented environment that empowers staff through active communication and delegation and that builds confidence, promotes diversity of thought, and celebrates achievements. An approach to management that leads by example, bringing out the best in staff and yielding pride, ownership, and a sense of team effort.
The credibility, maturity, and sound judgment required to effectively engage and leverage Latin leadership and volunteers in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of key prospects and donors.
Superlative interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization, across a diverse range of educational and social backgrounds, and to demonstrate an authentic respect for each individual.
Superior written and oral communication skills; the ability to understand and translate information for all audiences.
A highly organized working style and strong attention to and appreciation for detail.
Sharp eye for operational efficiency and the best use of resources, including a demonstrated understanding of budgets and the ability to manage them.
Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
