Pay Range Base pay:
$325,000.00/yr - $375,000.00/yr
Job Summary The Amarillo VA Health Care System is seeking a full‑time Physician (Medical Director – Emergency Medicine) who will manage and direct the activities of the Emergency Department in accordance with hospital policies, standards, and ethical guidelines. The position requires a minimum of 0.5 FTE clinical and 0.5 FTE administrative time. A recruitment/relocation incentive may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate.
Responsibilities
Provide medical direction for emergency department operations, including evaluation, stabilization, and transfer of acute medical, surgical, and trauma patients.
Initiate and manage treatment of ongoing or chronic conditions presenting to the ED.
Ensure evidence‑based, cost‑effective patient care and compliance with Joint Commission, CARF, VA, VISN, and HIPAA standards.
Lead staffing, scheduling, and performance of emergency physicians and support staff.
Administer administrative duties: personnel, budgeting, quality assurance, and continuing education.
Serve as liaison with hospital administration, medical staff, nursing leadership, and external agencies (EMS, law enforcement, etc.).
Participate in recruitment, orientation, and professional development of the ED team.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
United States citizenship or eligible non‑citizen per VA policy.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
Full, unrestricted physician license in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.
Completed ACGME or AOA accredited residency in Emergency Medicine, or equivalent training with at least 5 years of U.S. practice.
Board certification in Emergency Medicine preferred; must meet ACEP continuing medical education requirements.
Proficient spoken and written English.
Physical ability to lift ≤15 lbs, perform finger dexterity tasks, walk, stand, visually and audibly operate computer equipment.
