Job Description: The 508/Accessibility Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products and platforms meet Section 508 standards and that they are accessible to individuals with disabilities. The candidate will manage and perform accessibility testing, provide technical guidance, and participate in the design, development, and implementation of accessible solutions.
Requirements:
U.S Citizenship required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
This position is remote but may require occasional onsite meetings in McLean, VA.
You can be based out of following states: AZ, DC, FL, GA, OH, ME, MD, SC, TX, UT, VA, NC, OK, WV.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
At least 7 years of relevant experience in accessibility engineering or a related discipline.
Proficiency in accessibility standards including Section 508 and WCAG 2.0.
Strong understanding of assistive technologies and their applications.
Familiarity with development environments and coding languages like JAVA, Spring Boot, React, and knowledge of platforms like GitHub and Docker.
Technical proficiency in performing accessibility tests and identifying solutions.
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to provide clear technical guidance.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications such as Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS).
Experience in a government contracting environment.
Knowledge of additional regulations such as FISMA, HIPAA, and FedRAMP.
Responsibilities Compliance and Standards:
Ensure full compliance with 508 Requirements for all electronic ICT and content delivered.
Implement and adhere to WCAG 2.0 Level A and AA guidelines, functional performance criteria, hardware, software, support documentation, and services requirements.
Testing and Evaluation:
Conduct accessibility testing using various tools and methods, including screen readers, magnifiers, and other assistive technology to verify that ICT products are usable by individuals with disabilities.
Collaborate with development teams to identify and rectify accessibility issues throughout the product lifecycle.
Technical Guidance and Documentation:
Provide technical advice and accessibility training to development and design teams, ensuring that all ICT solutions incorporate best accessibility practices.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to Section 508 compliance, including accessibility conformance reports and remediation plans.
Compatibility with Assistive Technology:
Ensure that all ICT products are compatible with assistive technology devices without needing the installation of additional software or hardware.
Continuous Improvement:
Monitor industry trends and regulatory updates related to accessibility standards and integrate relevant changes into existing policies and procedures.
Participate in evaluations to ensure compliance with relevant accessibility regulations.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Work closely with program management and other stakeholders to ensure that Section 508 requirements are clearly understood and implemented.
Collaborate with other contractors and entities to ensure a seamless integration of accessibility requirements across various systems.
