Our global EPC Firm client is hiring an Energy & Utility Consulting Director for a full-time/permanent opportunity in their Brea, CA office.
Job Overview The Utility Consulting Director is responsible for the successful sale and execution of management and advisory consulting engagements, with subject matter expertise in one of the following areas:
Transmission Planning
Grid Modernization & Distribution Planning
Resource Planning & Market Assessment
Financial Analysis & Rates
Utility Investment Planning
Renewable Energy
Energy Asset Advisory
Zero Emissions Transportation
The Director will manage and provide expertise and professional development to a team of consultants and analysts, focusing on project quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontracts, proposals, estimates, and client relations, while ensuring client satisfaction through commitment, dedication, integrity, and outstanding service.
Responsibilities
Organize and direct consulting projects, including the overall pursuit, negotiation, execution, cost, schedule, and quality of deliverables.
Facilitate workshop sessions with senior-level client teams to understand client requirements, uncover needs, and develop action plans.
Compile, distribute, and present status reports, including project progress, schedule, cost, and budget impacts to internal and external stakeholders.
Establish project teams, coordinate activities among multiple disciplines, and ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff. Provide performance feedback and contribute to training curricula and materials.
Accountable for delivering third‑party vendors and subcontractors, including contracts, scope, schedule, and budget. Identify upselling and cross‑selling opportunities.
Leverage the latest tools, technologies, and best practices to create action and traction in the face of ambiguity.
Ensure prime contract, subcontractor, and supplier invoicing is processed promptly in alignment with agreements.
Provide managerial direction and work assignments to consultants and analysts.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field from an accredited program. MBA preferred.
Minimum of 13 years of relevant consulting experience.
Excellent business acumen with proven success managing consulting engagements.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large data sets quickly and efficiently.
Ability to uncover customer needs, develop recommendations, and deliver them persuasively.
Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
Strong understanding of financial concepts.
Excellent planning and analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
