Senior Staff Engineer – GEICO
Join GEICO to build high‑performance, low‑maintenance, zero‑downtime platforms and applications that drive the insurance business transformation.
Base Pay Range $130,000.00/yr – $260,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
Focus on multiple areas and provide technical and thought leadership to the enterprise.
Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve toughest problems.
Develop and execute technical software development strategy for various domains.
Accountable for quality, usability, and performance of solutions.
Utilize programming languages such as Python, C#, Java, C++, SQL, NoSQL databases and container orchestration services (Docker, Kubernetes) along with Azure tools and services.
Serve as a role model and mentor, coach and strengthen technical expertise of engineering and product community; influence and educate executives.
Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
Analyze cost and forecast, incorporate them into business plans.
Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes, and demonstrate adaptability and continuous learning.
Qualifications
Exemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmap.
Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production.
Track record of publications in credible conferences and journals.
Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms.
Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches.
Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, startup‑like environment.
Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle.
Fluency in at least two modern programming languages such as Java, C++, Python or C#.
Experience with micro‑services oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs.
Experience building architecture and design of new and current systems.
Fluency in DevOps concepts, cloud architecture and Azure DevOps operational framework.
Experience with PowerShell scripting.
Experience with Azure Portal and existing operational portals.
Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments.
Deep knowledge of Datacenter structure, capabilities and Azure native services.
Experience with security protocols and products (Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth).
Experience with Azure Network (subscription, security zoning, etc.).
Experience
10+ years of professional software development experience within a Java framework (J2EE, web containers and Java).
8+ years of experience with architecture and design.
6+ years of experience in open‑source frameworks.
4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
Annual Salary $130,000.00 – $260,000.00. The above range is a general guideline; final offer considers scope, responsibilities, experience, education, location and market.
