Job Description
The Virology (HIV) Regional Medical Scientific Director is a credentialed (MD, PhD, DNP, or PharmD) therapeutic and disease area expert who engages in both scientific exchange and research support with external scientific leaders and investigators. This MSL‑type role provides scientific leaders with balanced, factual information on non‑product areas of interest to our company and responds to scientific questions, including those about our products and data. The Director facilitates and develops peer‑level relationships with scientific leaders and investigators, supports data generation activities for sponsored trials and independent investigator study programs, and reports to the Regional RMSD Team Leader within US Medical Affairs, Global Clinical Development, and R&D.
Location Details
This role covers KS, MO, IA, ND, SD, NE.
Candidates must reside within the territory, with a strong preference for the St. Louis or Kansas City areas.
Travel up to 50% within the territory.
Primary Activities
Identify, establish, and manage collaborative professional relationships with scientific leaders and investigators to address scientific needs.
Conduct peer‑level scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence to provide R&D/Medical Affairs contact.
Engage in proactive non‑product discussions on disease states, diagnosis, epidemiology, unmet medical need, population health, etc., to inform R&D and Human Health strategy.
Facilitate scientific exchange of information with stakeholders, integrating knowledge with actionable insights.
Communicate external stakeholder insights on new data and clinical trends to Medical Affairs HQ teams.
Represent R&D at scientific meetings and congresses, contribute to debriefs and post‑congress reports.
Develop and execute territory plans aligned with global Virology strategy.
Support data generation activities for investigator‑initiated research programs and phase III clinical development programs.
Provide in‑depth scientific support to Health Systems teams within USMA.
Maintain in-depth disease and therapeutic knowledge, attend conferences, workshops, and review key journals.
Fully comply with all company policies, laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
Education Minimum Requirement
Advanced degree (MD, PhD, DNP, or PharmD) relevant to Virology and the position.
Experience Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 3 years in biotech/pharmaceutical/healthcare environment.
Minimum of 3 years of clinical and/or research experience in Virology/HIV or related therapeutic area.
Demonstrated scientific excellence in Virology or the related area.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking, and presentation skills.
Ability to travel up to 50% and reside in the coverage region.
Skills Required
Deep therapeutic competency and awareness of Virology trends.
Strong networking and partnership skills with external customers and scientific leaders.
Ability to consolidate, analyze, summarize, and interpret complex data sets.
Knowledge of clinical guidelines, FDA regulations, OIG, HIPAA, and other relevant regulations.
Excellent organizational, prioritization, and adaptability skills.
Preferred Capabilities
Recognition for scientific excellence in Virology, including clinical, academic, or translational research.
Experience in both clinical Virology and independent research, especially in late‑stage clinical trials.
5+ years of prior pharmaceutical industry experience as an MSL or similar.
Prior experience within the coverage region and established relationships with Virology stakeholders.
Demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to handle challenges within scope of authority.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Remote work from the coverage region; headquarters in Upper Gwynedd, PA.
Work Model and Compensation Hybrid Work Model : Employees in office‑based positions are required to work on site three days per week (Monday‑Thursday) with remote work on Friday, unless business needs require on‑site presence. This model does not apply to field‑based positions or roles that have been designated as remote.
Salary Range: $187,000.00 – $294,400.00. Eligibility for annual bonus and long‑term incentive, if applicable.
