Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Senior Mechanical Engineer
to lead the design and delivery of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems for a wide range of commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. This individual will play a key role in project leadership, client engagement, and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring that mechanical system designs meet performance, sustainability, and code requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical system design for HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems from concept through construction documents.
Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and system layout using industry-standard tools and software.
Develop specifications, technical reports, and detailed engineering drawings in coordination with architectural and other engineering disciplines.
Oversee and review work produced by junior engineers and designers; provide technical guidance and mentorship.
Conduct site assessments, field surveys, and construction administration tasks, including RFIs, submittal reviews, and punch lists.
Coordinate with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure design intent aligns with project goals and budgets.
Ensure all mechanical designs comply with relevant codes and standards, including ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, IECC, and local building requirements.
Participate in project planning, fee development, and proposal support as needed.
Support sustainability initiatives, including energy modeling, LEED documentation, and high-performance design approaches.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
8–12+ years of mechanical engineering experience within an MEP consulting environment.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required or the ability to obtain reciprocity.
Proficiency with HVAC and plumbing design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, or similar tools.
Strong understanding of building systems, energy efficiency principles, and construction practices.
Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with sustainable design practices and certifications (LEED AP, WELL AP, or similar).
Experience with healthcare, lab, mission-critical, or large commercial project types.
Familiarity with commissioning processes and energy auditing.
