Job Details Position Summary :
Cencora seeks an attorney with significant experience in data governance, privacy, cybersecurity, and emerging artificial intelligence issues to provide strategic legal advice in addressing Cencora's data risk management and innovation priorities. This role reports to the Assistant General Counsel - Data Governance, Privacy, and Cybersecurity and collaborates with legal, business, and functional teams across the enterprise.
The role requires expertise in US, Canada, and LA privacy, cybersecurity, and AI laws, regulations, and guidance, including HIPAA and state healthcare privacy laws.
This position requires a lawyer with strong analytical skills, business-oriented legal services delivery, and project management skills. The candidate should provide strategic insights to compliance partners and develop governance mechanisms for emerging data and technology law areas.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :
Advise on complex legal, regulatory, and policy questions related to data privacy, protection, cybersecurity, and AI, including federal, state, Canadian, and local laws.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to healthcare, HIPAA, privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and data protection, including creating template agreements and playbooks.
Assess and mitigate harms from privacy and cybersecurity incidents through communication, issue escalation, and stakeholder partnership.
Review technology proposals involving privacy, cyber, and AI risks, and provide pragmatic, privacy-by-design solutions.
Demonstrate decision-making and communication skills during incidents or high-risk proposals requiring escalation.
Manage multiple projects effectively, prioritizing high-value and high-risk initiatives.
Experience and Education Requirements Minimum 5-7 years of legal experience focusing on privacy, data governance, and cybersecurity. Prior in-house and cross-functional experience in multinational companies preferred. Healthcare legal experience is a plus. Must be a graduate of an accredited law school and admitted to and in good standing with a US state bar.
Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements :
Familiarity with privacy, cybersecurity, AI laws across NA and LA, including HIPAA.
Ability to communicate themes across jurisdictions for risk management in multi-country launches.
Experience managing outside counsel and liaising with experts.
Ability to understand business models, technology trends, and future regulatory developments.
Experience advising and presenting to senior management with clear risk assessments.
Strong soft skills for incident management and risk escalation.
Experience working with compliance teams and operational targets.
Privacy, AI, or security certifications (preferred).
Negotiation, prioritization, multitasking, client management skills.
