Environmental Program Manager Role AWS Environmental is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We ensure continuous access to innovation by supporting all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep the cloud running.

You Will

Partner with AWS stakeholders to develop regional and site‑specific development strategies for the construction and operation of AWS data centers and infrastructure.

Provide technical assistance and risk‑management support to construction managers and partner teams, promoting and managing environmental compliance during construction, focusing on protection of sensitive environmental resources, wetland permit compliance, and construction stormwater NPDES permit compliance (including erosion and sediment control).

Prepare for data center operations.

Engage regularly during the construction phase with multiple AWS stakeholders, including Real Estate, Legal, Risk, Water, Design, Public Policy, Construction, and Operational teams, as well as external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors.

Key Job Responsibilities

Assess environmental risks and requirements, develop mitigations and strategies to support site‑specific project delivery.

Manage environmental compliance during construction, focusing on wetlands permits and erosion and sediment control.

Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.

Coordinate with partner teams including Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, and others to manage construction and operational constraints.

Develop site development strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.

Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations.

Develop, manage, and track metrics to evaluate project success.

A Day in the Life The AWS Environmental Construction Compliance team manages the environmental requirements during data center and infrastructure development in the Americas. The Environmental PM will be a key member managing the construction phase of the projects.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, math, business or equivalent.

7+ years managing permitting and compliance for new developments.

5+ years environmental construction oversight.

3+ years erosion and sediment control management during construction.

Preferred Qualifications

Data center or critical infrastructure construction, and/or risk assessment experience strongly preferred.

Experience in multiple states within the US, managing and supporting community/public interactions.

Experience with Smartsheets or other project‑management software.

Up to 50% domestic travel.

Compensation The base pay ranges from $125,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $239,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay varies by location and candidate skills.
