seeks a licensed attorney to lead risk management, transactional, and regulatory legal matters for UC San Diego Health. Job Details
Title: Principal Counsel, Health Pay Scale: $248,020 – $310,950 / Year Work Schedule: Hybrid, Days, 8 hrs/day, Mon–Fri Appointment: Career, 100% Location: UC San Diego Health, Hybrid Extended Deadline: 1/4/2026 Responsibilities
Serve as lead counsel on risk management, transactional, and regulatory affairs for UC San Diego Health. Handle complex legal matters and projects that hold substantial importance and impact. Work closely with Health Sciences leadership, Risk Management, Regulatory Affairs, and School of Medicine leadership. Provide expert advice and negotiation on legal and regulatory issues impacting health care operations and educational and research affairs. Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with diverse clients and stakeholders. Assist with due diligence and development of effective compliance and risk mitigation strategies. Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school. Minimum 8 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Member in good standing of the California Bar. Relevant practice experience in health law, general law firm health law department, or in‑house counsel for a community health system. In‑depth understanding of complex legal issues and ability to foresee implications in specialty area. Experience in healthcare transactions and counseling clients in healthcare transactions. Strong understanding of laws and regulations governing healthcare providers, hospitals, physician groups, payers, and industry partners. Experience anticipating, reviewing, commenting on, and advocating client positions with respect to legislative, regulatory, and related developments affecting healthcare regulatory matters and health system strategy. Advanced skills in project management and facilitating policy review and changes. Special Conditions

Annual Full Pay Range: $176,100 – $355,900 (prorated if appointment percentage
