Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Fremont, CA
What To Expect Tesla is seeking an innovative Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to join our multi‑discipline EPC team. You will help create the factory of the future by delivering detailed mechanical and utilities designs that are fully integrated with our manufacturing processes. The role requires daily on‑site presence.
What You’ll Do
Design and draft mechanical engineering deliverables as Engineer of Record, ensuring code compliance and maintaining the highest quality
Coordinate and collaborate across disciplines, serving as the ultimate system owner for HVAC, heat exchangers, heating and cooling systems, fans, pumps, plumbing, and more
Develop and review conceptual designs, identify technical and financial risks, and propose alternative solutions to mitigate those risks
Improve project workflows and standards to ensure consistency and excellence across all designs
Participate in on‑field construction and commissioning, acting as the technical point of contact for real‑time issue resolution
Interface with external EPC firms during bidding and execution to maintain engineering standards
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Professional Mechanical Engineering license
7+ years of mechanical design experience; experience with owner‑operator and design/consultancy firms is highly desired
Experience designing industrial facilities or data centers (a plus)
In‑depth knowledge of International Energy Conservation, Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Codes, NFPA standards, and SMACNA duct construction standards
