Northrop Grumman Marine Systems is seeking an on‑site Day Shift or Night Shift (three shifts available to choose from) Mechanical Production Engineer Level 2/3 to participate in the development and ongoing support of new and existing steam turbine and gearbox designs used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems of the US Navy. The role requires applying engineering principles and industry practice in the design of turbine and gear components and subsystems. Responsibilities include developing design concepts and repair solutions, performing trade studies, conducting supporting evaluations and analyses, participating in detail design, drawing development, design reviews, release for manufacture, and following through test and production phases. The engineer will also prepare and present formal technical briefings as required.
Position focus: rotating machinery design and general engineering for ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems involving steam turbines, gearboxes, and generator sets. Activities include developing new designs from concept through detailed design, manufacture, and test phases, and supporting manufacturing activities on existing production contracts.
Shift Options
Day Shift A:
6:00 am – 6:00 pm, Friday – Sunday (12‑hour shift)*
Day Shift B:
9/80 schedule (Monday‑Friday, every other Friday off) (9‑hour shift)*
Night Shift A:
6:00 pm – 6:00 am, Friday – Sunday (12‑hour shift)*
Specific hours may be shifted; one of the two shifts listed above is required.
Basic Qualifications – Level 2
Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline with 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master of Science in a STEM discipline with no relevant experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance.
U.S. citizenship required.
Experience using solid modeling software such as CREO or NX.
Knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 drawing standards and geometric tolerancing.
Proficiency in mechanical engineering principles, developing design concepts, performing trade studies, and conducting supporting evaluations and analyses.
Required to work one of the two Day Shifts: 6 am onsite through 4 pm onsite Monday‑Thursday (4/10s), or 6 am onsite through 6 pm onsite Friday‑Sunday (3/12’s).

Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline with 5 years of experience, or a Master of Science in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance.

Salary Information Primary Level Range:
$81,300 – $121,900 Secondary Level Range:
$100,300 – $150,500 These ranges are guidelines; final salary depends on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long‑term incentives for senior positions. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays, paid time off, and additional benefits as described.
