Aquatics Director - Cordova YMCA Location: Cordova, TN

Job Type: Full-time

PURPOSE OF POSITION This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Center Director, the Aquatics Director is responsible for developing and overseeing all aquatics activities at the YMCA, including general aquatics operations, lifeguarding, maintaining a safe swimming condition, and pool operations. The position will extend the Y’s mission by creating a positive atmosphere where everyone is respected and welcomed and builds relationships with team members and members alike.

Essential Functions General Operations

Manages a team of aquatics personnel; schedules, monitors, and approves time for all team members.

Schedules, conducts, and documents training to ensure all team members’ training certifications are up to date, including Ellis training, CPR, and First-Aid.

Develops and monitors annual Aquatics department revenue and expense budget to meet center fiscal objectives; accountable for all aquatics department financial results.

Maintains the highest standards in pool safety and ensures full compliance with association and Ellis standards and guidelines.

Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, Ellis & Associates, ADA guidelines, and YMCA health and safety regulations.

Assists in YMCA fundraising activities, annual campaigns, and special events as needed.

Lifeguard

Responsible for all lifeguard shift scheduling and filling shifts as necessary.

Responsible for training and recertifying current and potential lifeguards.

Oversees lifeguards while on deck and coaches the team when necessary.

Pool Operations

Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools; maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

Responsible for fixing basic pool maintenance issues.

Tracks and oversees the completion of daily chemical logs.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Two years or more related experience preferred.

Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Current CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, and swim lesson instructor certifications. YMCA instructor certifications preferred.

Work Schedule The schedule for this full-time position is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 am–6:00 pm, though overtime, evenings, and weekend work may be required depending on the business need. The Y’s regular hours are 7 days a week: Mon.–Fri. 5:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.; Sat. 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; Sun. 1:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Must hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally.

Climbing pool equipment, including a 10 ft. ladder.

Works outside in 80–90+ degree temperatures for a maximum of 20–60 minutes at a time, several times during a shift.

Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position which includes walking, standing, bending, reaching frequently, and correctly demonstrating the proper form of exercises.

Salary $43,680 – $45,760 per year.
