Pay Range 75,000 - 130,000 USD per year (Seattle, WA)
Role Overview We are seeking a mid to senior level energy modeling professional to join our growing Energy Services Studio, which works in close collaboration with our Sustainability and Commissioning Studios. This role is vital in driving both our private and public project success across diverse sectors, including multifamily, affordable housing, hospitality, adaptive reuse, tenant improvement, high-rise, mid-rise, industrial, and wastewater projects. You will leverage expertise in energy-efficient building system design and simulation, energy codes, and green building rating systems to help facilitate operationally efficient projects. As a member of an engineering firm with other design services, this position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where your contributions will directly impact the quality and success of each project.
Key Responsibilities
Lead energy consulting coordination across multidisciplinary teams for a variety of project types and scopes, including energy code compliance, certification with sustainability protocols (LEED, Living Building Challenge, Built Green, etc.), life cycle cost analyses, decarbonization studies, Zero Energy and Zero Carbon analysis and consulting, energy audits, and other operational energy and carbon related work as needed.
Utilize simulation software to model and analyze energy systems for a diverse range of project types (multifamily, commercial, laboratory, education, healthcare, industrial, public/infrastructure, etc.). Understand the limitations or advantages of the different modeling tools available to determine the most appropriate tool to utilize based on specific project needs, systems, and other considerations.
Engage with clients and multi-disciplinary project teams to integrate energy and carbon‑efficient strategies into project designs.
Create documentation for building permits for energy code compliance under multiple jurisdictions and code cycles. Use appropriate professional engineering judgment to apply code interpretations or pursue code alternate requests or clarifications if needed.
Compile documentation for sustainability certifications as needed, including creating and documenting exceptional calculations if necessary.
Participate in internal and external education efforts around energy and sustainability topics.
Maintain a commitment to lifelong learning, including new technologies and trends related to building construction, sustainability, and energy analysis.
Keep abreast of Washington's Clean Building Performance Act and Seattle Building Emissions Performance Standards, helping ensure clients are educated and supporting project teams and designs ability to meet current and future regulations.

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of experience in whole building energy modeling within the construction industry.
A strong commitment to holistic sustainable design principles and outcomes.
Experience with an energy analysis simulation software (experience with all not required): eQUEST, IESVE, EnergyPlus/OpenStudio.
Strong background in energy‑efficient system design and simulation, LEED rating systems, energy analysis studies, and energy management & incentive programs.
Solid understanding of HVAC systems and controls.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to provide excellent client service.
Proficiency in Bluebeam and the Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint.
Expert knowledge of Washington State and City of Seattle energy codes.
Familiarity with Washington Clean Building Performance Act and Seattle Building Emissions Performance Standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or similar related field of study, or equivalent work experience.
PE license, BEMP, and/or LEED AP credentials.
CPHC and Passive House experience.
Experience with utilizing programming/scripts with energy modeling tools, including Open Studio’s parametric analysis tool and measures.
Interest in optimizing workflows and creating tools and scripts to streamline processes and quality control.
Extensive experience with Bluebeam, including use of custom fields and toolsets.
Experience achieving code alternate requests or negotiating with local jurisdictions around code requirements, including substantial alteration projects in Seattle.
Experience with existing buildings, including Level 2 ASHRAE energy audits.
Experience with heat pump technology performance validation in existing buildings.
Experience or strong interest in marginal carbon emissions analysis, grid interactive building design, and building resilience.
Experience modeling photovoltaic PV systems (e.g. solar shading studies).
Experience or strong interest in quantifying embodied carbon impacts of buildings, including for MEP systems and refrigerants. E.g. involvement with Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF) or MEP 2040.
Strong interest in active participation in code and policy development.
Experience modeling district energy systems.
Experience working at campus or portfolio scale.
Experience or strong interest in the connection between building design and real‑world performance, or interest in system verification/commissioning.
