Associate Director, Accessibility Resources Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Institutional Accessibility & ADA Coordinator, this position requires direct coordination of services provided for students with disabilities at Broward College in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This position oversees the day‑to‑day operations of staff and services provided by Accessibility Resources college‑wide.

Minimum Experience/Training Five years of experience working with adults with disabilities in an educational institution, plus three years of supervisory experience.

Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree required.

Essential Functions

Daily – 30%: Provide leadership and direction for the Accessibility Resources department and ensure an accessible and inclusive environment that welcomes students with disabilities. Responsibilities include people management of the area, recommendations for staffing, hiring, termination, discipline, setting performance standards and evaluating staff. Provide direction and training to department staff to ensure the highest level of service provision.

Daily – 5%: Establish short- and long‑range strategic planning, program goals, and operating procedures for the department in alignment with those of the College. Conduct ongoing program and service assessment and evaluation to identify and eliminate potential barriers. Work with the department supervisor to maintain and manage the department’s budget.

Daily – 30%: Evaluate and conduct complex analysis of prospective and current students’ psycho-educational/medical/ psychological documentation to verify eligibility for services under the ADA and Section 504. Determine reasonable accommodations for qualified students in the areas of academic and student services and develop individualized accommodation plans to support student success and ensure an equitable environment throughout the college.

Daily – 10%: Coordinate the interpreting/CART schedule for all campuses. Ensure all courses, activities, and events are covered by Broward College or Contracted Agency interpreters. Work with the department supervisor to provide input into recommendations for budgeting for interpreting/CART services. Maintain a spreadsheet to track charges incurred. Make recommendations for continued funding as needed.

Daily – 10%: Conduct individual interviews and group orientations, and provide ongoing case management for registered students who receive accommodations. Maintain and manage individual confidential student records consisting of medical, psychological, and educational documents related to the student’s disability and accommodation need. Record detailed log notes on interactions with students and their faculty/contacts. Maintain a database to compile reports on program activities and services as required by the college and/or state.

Other – 5%: Work with faculty, staff, and students to provide dispute resolution over the appropriate provision of accommodations throughout the college. Provide referral services to students in need and/or who are in crisis.

Other – 5%: Attend college-wide, pathway, division, and department meetings to provide professional development surrounding Accessibility Resources issues. Attend and participate in professional groups and committees; maintain knowledge, attend training, workshops and conferences to maintain compliance with regulatory changes and best practices.

Other – 5%: Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

In‑depth knowledge of information and resources regarding organizations, equipment, technology, legislation, and especially higher education information and resources for serving disabled college students.

Knowledge of accommodations and issues related to students with disabilities.

Ability to communicate effectively with students with varying disabilities.

Handling of confidentiality issues with integrity.

Models excellence through specific actions that support the College’s mission in the recruitment, hiring, and retention of talented staff.

General understanding of the external environment and how it affects academia in general.

Strong knowledge of College structure, policies and practices, and the impact on own area.

Proven expertise in executing operational plans, managing projects and/or programs, budgeting, cost control and delivery of results.

In‑depth managerial and team‑building skills, and demonstrated ability to motivate and empower direct and indirect reports to achieve area priorities.

Ability to partner with others across the College and externally to exchange information, collaborate on projects, share resources, etc.

May require negotiation skills and ability to reach mutual points of agreement and benefit among peers and colleagues.

Advanced level technical skills for functional area required.
